The Force is seven long tracks of balls-out, pedal-down, hammers-up, throw-the-fucking-horns Satanic Thrash from Hell. Think Show No Mercy crossbred with In The Sign Of Evil and Black Metal and you’re in the right neighborhood. If you are not flailing your head like an idiot halfway through “”Let There Be Death”” then you are just fucked up. And there are no dead spots on this disc, right through “”Metal Forces””, the awesome “”Fight With The Beast”” and the terrific “”Flame Of The Antichrist””. No bad riffs, no boring parts, no fucking ballads, just pure steel ownage. Oh, and no clean vocals either. Sy Keeler is no Steve Grimmet, no, he sounds like Cronos ate Tom Araya alive and is spewing him back out.
This came out the same years as Slayer mighty Reign In Blood, and of the two, I think I have to give the edge to The Force, because it just as good, and almost twice as long. A blood-encrusted sacrificial dagger stabbed right into the heart of false fucking metal. The Force rules.

Μόλις είχε περάσει ένας χρόνος από το ντεμπούτο των Βρετανών ONSLAUGHT, το “Power from hell” και όλοι περιμέναμε κάτι παρόμοιο ηχητικά. Υπήρξε όμως καθολική διάψευση. Μπορεί οι επιρροές από πρώιμους SLAYER να υπάρχουν, όπως και πολύ VENOM, POSSESSED, αλλά υπάρχουν και πρώιμοι SODOM και KREATOR, γιατί όχι και DESTRUCTION και βασικά, μία μπάντα που δείχνει ότι ξέρει να παίζει και να συνθέτει πολύ καλύτερα. Τόλμησαν –βασικά ο κύριος συνθέτης του σχήματος, κιθαρίστας Nige Rockett- να γράψουν ένα δίσκο που αποτελείται από εφτά κομμάτια που με εξαίρεση το “Thrash till the death” που κλείνει το δίσκο, διαρκούν πάνω από έξι λεπτά. Και ξέρετε ποιο είναι το θέμα; Ότι δεν κουράζουν, αφού οι αλλαγές είναι συνεχείς και σου κρατάνε αμείωτο το ενδιαφέρον. Στα φωνητικά είναι πλέον ο Sy Keeler, που «το έχει» καλύτερα, ιδίως στα ψιλά και οι υπόλοιποι μουσικοί έχουν το επίπεδο που χρειάζεται για να στηρίξουν τη μουσική των ONSLAUGHT. Αγαπημένο τραγούδι, το “Flame of the Antichrist”, που αν το είχαν γράψει οι SLAYER, θα θεωρούνταν ήδη κλασικό. Ξεχωρίζουν ακόμα το “Fight with the beast”, το “Metal force” και το εναρκτήριο “Let there be death” (λέτε από εκεί να τους προέκυψε να διασκευάσουν και το “Let there be rock” που το γύρισαν και σε video clip, λίγα χρόνια αργότερα; Άλλη μεγάλη cult-ιά). Πρόκειται για το άλμπουμ που τους έκανε ένα cult όνομα στο χώρο του thrash, αλλά εκεί είναι που τους «ψάρεψε» η Polygram και προσπάθησε να τους κάνει METALLICA λίγα χρόνια αργότερα με το “In search of sanity” και τον Steve Grimmett στα φωνητικά…   [Σάκης Φράγκος]
