INTERVIEW: REFLECTION
One of the oldest Greek bands, REFLECTION, recently returned to the scene and with a double blow, the release of their full album “FIRE STILL BURNS” and the split mini album with Inner Wish. with them and specifically with their tradi- tor CHRISTOS KAPPA.
can you briefly remember the history of Reflection?
– Reflection completed ten years of their presence on the scene, since they have since September 1991. After two demos (“Before The – and “When Immortals Die”), and a 7″ EP (“Sire Of The Storm”, the 195) and the recent albums, the band continues to walk the paths of epi-heavy metal. The members of the band, in the last three years, are: in Kappas (vocals) Stathis Pavlantis (guitar), Yiannis Psarakis (guitar – Yiannis Tolakis (bass) and Giorgos Pavlantis (drums).
and the two albums were released almost at the same time?
-release of the split CD with Inner Wish was arranged. A few weeks before its release, we were approached by Secret Port Records and signed to re-release “The Fire Still Burns” which was self-financed in the past. We decided to write it from scratch, add all the old tracks – put a new cover and generally present a release. according to our name.”
the musical differences between these two albums?
“There are no differences. The musical style is the same, as it will be in the future. The only difference is that the split has new tracks, while the full is
something like an anthology of our early years.” What do you think of epic metal – the genre you serve – in today’s time; “
Which epic metal? Because if we consider bands like Hammerfall and Rhapsody epic metal, then we play soul!!! We perceive epic differently. Just like the fathers of Warlord, Manowar, Candlemass et al taught it. I can’t fathom how a band gets labelled just because they have a warrior or a dragon on the cover. Eris and heavy metal in general want soul, power and epic. Epic metal is underground and there are very few who follow it. We Greeks should be proud, because we have one of the biggest epic bands on the planet, Sarissa. But we said…few follow this difficult path. What has been the public response to your new releases so far?
“The response for the band is great. The name, after so many years, is moving in the underground space. People always attend our concerts, sales are going very well and so far, what I wanted hit it hit it, not only as a band but also as people.”
What’s next for Reflection?
“We have entered the studio to record our new album which is a concept based on Odyssey. We hope it will be released by the end of the year. We don’t want to rush, because we already have two releases this year. After the release of Odyssey will follow concerts. We are already thinking about a live at An Club to celebrate our tenth birthday!”
