Description
Highlight are a French band from Marseille. This 5 track Promo / demo CD is the bands second release recorded in August 2002.
The band is a four piece featuring ex-members of Flavor, Serpice and Unsound. The band plays mid to fast paced melodic rock creating really good catchy melodies. Most of the reviews of the first demo compared them heavily to the Queens of the Stone Age and this Demo is moving perhaps a bit more away from that sound although it is still heard on “Just Like a Match” and “3507”.

The group Highlight was created in September 2001. It consists of the former singer-guitarist Flavor, the former rhythm section and guitarist Unsound Fire Temple OX X / Serpico. Four Marseille immersed from an early age in rock music in general. In April 2002 the group decided to record their first demo (3 tracks), it aimed to freeze the initial compositions and establish a self-criticism. The recording will be performed in Nicolas singer-guitarist Dick Kill the thrill for a fruitful collaboration. It is with great satisfaction and surprise rather than chronic Commendation will run on various fanzines and webzines in several countries (France, Germany, Switzerland, United States …). The group then tackle its way to continue composing new songs while performing a few concerts (The Sewing Machine, The Balthazar …). In November 2002, again with Nicolas Dick that will register this, the second demo (5 songs). There is a pretty good flow on the new one at least the opener Just Like A Match are sounding early Soundgarden to me, New Century are more uptempo with some punchy lines and the final Sweet Row is pretty atmospheric, those have a pretty good feel, the rest is pretty much similar to the first disc pretty commercial but the disc have some Gothic overdubs that is cool. A bit like The Mission and Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. Highlight have at least taken a step forward.

Highlight was founded in 2001 in Marseille by former members of Flavor, Serpico and Unsound and, despite its youth, this group has already been the subject of commendations both in the print media and on specialized online sites in the stoner that are Daredevil and Stonerrock.com among others. This already second demo with five titles is, I confirm, excellent in many ways. ‘Who Am I’ and ‘Just Like A Match’ groove terribly in a neighboring register of Kyuss or Queens Of The Stone Age (especially in rhythm); even though the voice evolves at times in a style too close to Bono’s vocalises that does not seduce me too much. ‘New Century’ and ‘3507’ are songs that could have been on one of the legendary Desert Session, each in a different style. And as it all comes to an end, it’s called ‘Sweet Row’ and it reminds me in turn of Orquesta Del Desierto and Chris Cornell. Strongly following!
