Description

Galactic Cowboys, originally released through Geffen in 1991. The band features members of KINGS X who have been an internationally successful band for many years and are currently undertaking a world tour.

•The Galactic Cowboy’s sound combined Beatles-styled harmonies with a hard metal edge which meant that they were extremely popular in the mid 1990’s.

•Whilst the band did not originate from Seattle and did not have a typical grunge sound, they have still remained as one of the most highly collected groups of the period.

  • The song “Kaptain Krude” is written about the Exxon Valdez oil spill which happened in 1989.
It has been a bit of a rarity on tape so I was chuffed when I stumbled across this.
This is a very nostalgic album for me and I’m sure many others during their formative years in the early 90s. If you know of King’s X then you’ll probably be aware of the Cowboys who were very much a fringe outfit of their day. They shared producers with King’s x in both band’s early days and the similarities are obvious. The Cowboys are in essence a heavier version of King’s X. They do write some killer guitar riffs and yet the overall sound is softened by some fantastic vocal harmonies very much in keeping with Ty Tabot and the rest of King’s X.If you’re a KX fan, you’re sure to love this. These chaps were very skilful song writers and really deserved much more success than they actually achieved. The “ballads” on this album really shine and stack up well with the big grunge bands of the day – just listen to My School, Someone For Everyone and Speak To Me – and you’ll known what I mean.If you’re unfamiliar with either this lot or King’s X, I have no hesitation in recommending purchase, assuming that is you like your rock/metal intelligently written, beautifully harmonised, quirky and, in places, damn heavy.
