Description

DE/TEST come from Isernhagen, Germany and play an individual mixture of Neo Thrash Metal and Hardcore. They enhance it with melodic keyboards, which play an important role in their entire sound. The opener Silence Is Broken sounds like newer MACHINE HEAD, especially with the riffing, singing and aforementioned keyboards. Second song Part Of Me is my personal favourite on Language Of Violence offers everything you can expect from melodic Thrash Metal. Vocalist Jens Albert roars his soul out but on this song, he can also shine with his clean vocals. We Rise is a bit weaker but the last two songs This Time and It Hurts are much better with more accessibility as well as much heaviness. The sound of this self produced record is very good, only the keyboards could be a bit more in the background, even though they play an important role in their sound.

Galaxy class spaceship or the old Stargazer? After all, you should definitely ask yourself this question! Of course, most would prefer a hot sled like the good Enterprise D… bigger, faster, better technology… but Cpt. Picard longs for his first command, too…even if it didn’t go as smoothly as a LaForge-lubricated warp core.

It shook every now and then … similar to vocal athlete Jens Albert from De/Test. The shouts are pretty solid, but the clean passages (especially on the number “Part Of Me”) have an annoying imbalance. Well, the stabilizers on Enterprise are better too. And the musical Galaxy class called Fear Factory also has more firepower than the somewhat simpler Constellation class De/Test. But let’s not be unfair … the fact that the four guys from Isernhagen are more than obviously oriented towards the former cyber (or even neo) thrash gods of Demanufacture times doesn’t necessarily have to be interpreted as a disadvantage – especially since it’s not just clumsily copied and the sound for an in-house production turned out to be more than official.

In addition to the melody-leading keyboards, whose sound knows how to distance itself a little more from FF than drumming and riffing, fine solos also flow in. De/Test give their music its own face. And they hit the best song of the MCD right at the beginning of our delighted ears. On “Silence Is Broken” they know best how to combine hard and modern music with a high level of catchiness and recognition value and to create a high suitability for the mosh. The only problem with the remaining songs is that they don’t come along quite as consistently and, as mentioned, suffer from the clean vocals, which are completely off-key.

There’s still some practice to be had. In contrast to the entirety of the intelligent arrangements, the choruses are not polished so cleanly that one cannot (yet) directly compete with the undeniable format of FF. But what you’ve heard from De/Test so far suggests that a band is developing here that will soon have the power of a USS Defiant. Ok, then beam us up and present the first long player! ENGAGE !

While the instrumental side of this CD offers excellent Thrash of the tight, straight kind and is able to awaken some subtle memories of blessed Bay Area heroes, singer Jens Albert makes it difficult for the listener to get involved with the otherwise so mature compositions.

“Language of Violence” is another example of how much a CD’s listening pleasure can rise or fall with the singer’s voice. Because while the instrumental side of this five-track demo CD offers excellent thrash of the tight, straight kind and is able to awaken some subtle memories of blessed Bay Area heroes, singer Jens Albert makes it difficult for the listener to focus on the otherwise so mature compositions. Sometimes he sings just past all the notes of the scale with somnambulistic certainty, as can be heard in the actually extremely catchy chorus to “Part of Me”, supported by keyboards, sometimes he tries too tensely to make up for a lack of aggressiveness with tubes, as happened with “We rising”. And with the rest of the songs, too, one is happy like snow kings about the powerful thrash club that Messrs. Langner, Kämmerer and Reese are swinging (extremely great: the opening riff of “This Time”!), only to wince as soon as the singing starts, the also has to struggle with a decent German accent. So there’s hardly anything left but to enjoy the staccato and brisk riffing of the guitar, the tight groove of the rhythm section and the discreet but effective use of synth passages and to try to somehow hide the voice, which only partially succeeds. It’s really a pity, because to emphasize it once again: The modern, but never Numetallic Thrash from DE/TEST otherwise hits the ground very well! the opening riff of “This Time”!), and then wince as soon as the vocals start, which also has to struggle with a decent German accent. So there’s hardly anything left but to enjoy the staccato and brisk riffing of the guitar, the tight groove of the rhythm section and the discreet but effective use of synth passages and to try to somehow hide the voice, which only partially succeeds. It’s really a pity, because to emphasize it once again: The modern, but never Numetallic Thrash from DE/TEST otherwise hits the ground very well! enjoy the tight groove of the rhythm section and the discreet but effective use of synth passages and try to somehow hide the voice, which, however, only succeeds to a limited extent. It’s really a pity, because to emphasize it once again: The modern, but never Numetallic Thrash from DE/TEST otherwise hits the ground very well!

SILENCE IS BROKEN

There’s anger there’s hate
Something to twist my fate
To make a stand is my demand
I eradicate your innocence

Listen to the word i say
Don’t try to cross my way
Patience is already dead
Just can’t erase the words you said

No way for me to flee
From all this insanity
No way for me to flee
From this morbid reality

Silence!
Silence!
Silence is broken

There’s anger there’s hate
Something to twist my fate
To make a stand is my demand
I eradicate your innocence

No way for me to flee
From all this insanity
No way for me to flee
From this morbid reality

Silence!
Silence!
Silence is broken

WE RISE

Broken trust and broken dreams
Visions of insanity
Made a choice for you and me
We must escape reality
It’s in our hearts – It’s in our souls
We’ve become helpless tools
Caught in a web
We’re almost trapped
Suffering without regrets

Onwards
Into darkness
Into darkness
We rise

Broken hope and broken souls
A story that remain untold
No sign of fear inside our eyes
Disillusion rules our lives

Onwards
Into darkness
Into darkness
We rise

Now we’re so afraid we’re going to fail
Betrayed by the demons of hate and decay
We share this fate It’s not to late
And we will rise – Yes we will rise
Just take my hand Our final stand
Our final stand We’ve reached the end

Into the light A place to hide
A silent ground So safe inside
We’ve become the chosen ones
Another dawn has just begun
Shedding skin falls away
We’ve already stopped decay
We will live We will rise
We’ll proceed these worthless lives

Onwards
Into darkness
Into darkness
We rise!

THIS TIME

To many wasted years
Eliminate the past
His life was out of luck
He’s walked through broken glass
No more excuses
There’s something deep inside
A feeling he can’t hide
A flash before his eyes

He can’t take it
He can’t take it anymore!
He will make it
He’s at war!

The truth He’ll find
Will change his mind
Anger inside
He just can’t hide

To many conversations
So many sleepless nights
Endless confrontations
and trouble by his side
He takes the final straw
So he prepares for war
Watch out everyone
Here comes the carnivore

He can’t take it
He can’t take it anymore!
He will make it
He’s at war!

The truth He’ll find
Will change his mind
Anger inside
He just can’t hide

Feel the tension inside your veins
Feel the tension drive’s you insane
Fell the sickness crawling inside
An unknown feeling You can’t hide

The truth He’ll find
Will change his mind
Anger Inside
He just can’t hide

IT HURTS

Wake up face the fear
To redress the time is here
Make me laugh Make me cry
Look me straight into the eye

Revelation
Endless frustration

Why do we cry
When it hurts
We’re so shy
As it hurts

Life is hard Life is cruel
Everyday you play the fool
Suck the shit from down below
Learn to live accept the rule

Revelation
Endless frustration

Why do we cry
When it hurts
We’re so shy
As it hurts

Wake up
Face the fear
Do it
The time is here
Wake up face the fear

Revelation
Endless frustration

Why do we cry
When it hurts
We’re so shy
As it hurts
Feel the pain
Let it hurt
Fell the pain
As it hurts
