Description

From the big, grandiose sounds of opener Spirit Inside, to the snappier sharp, swirling pop beats and immediate infection of Eros, Sydneyâs Elysium have an instant Euro kinda feel to them. Suitably amped, we hook into the more subdued, grey hues of Like A Rose, as it unravels its moody ways, floats along, then dances into the light with a tad more than just a flurry. Falling Into You takes a funkier approach, ahead of the soft, slow gentle lure of the wafting Hacking At The Corpses. The rock pile cops a total unearthing as Enter The Flame slams itself on the canvas and just keeps on throttling. A total change of pace that shows the underside of the Elysium belly, before we get a little funk edged once again. It seems the rock pedal is equally at home with the moodmeister as far as Elysium is concerned, and either way, they manage to pull it off beautifully.

The young Australian band that has seduced Silverchair ! “”Being Fed To Lions”” is the debutante release from young Australian lads Elysium. Recorded in just under three weeks at Damien Gerards Studios in Sydney, the music, honed in country bars and inner-city dives, is a fusion of everything from blues to Greek tragedy, basic hard rock to existential angst, a unique combination of the songwriting talents of John Ganas and Alex Edenborough along with the experienced musicianship of renowned guitarist Daniel Larson and accomplished drummer Foti Lambis. Using a combination of analogue and digital recording techniques, as well as a small selection of instruments outside of the band, including cello, bouzouki and keyboards, “”Being Fed To “”Lions”” is a broad and aurally appealing album from one of the most apologetic bands in Australia. An anxiety ridden project in itself, it will likely encompass everything you want to hear, and probably some things you don’t.

5.0 out of 5 stars One song a true classic
I’m writing this review just on the basis of one song alone – Loneman. This is truly an obscure classic if not an achievement in popular music, it starts off as a predictable blues/funk groove that suddenly breaks into one mother of a grunge chorus. Even then when you think you have it all down, out jumps this guitar solo that takes the song away as if it has just strapped it to a rocket ship. I haven’t heard of Daniel Larson or anything about these guys apart from this album, but there are some hellacious sounds all over this disc. Overall there is a good variety of moods here, but in my opinion Loneman is the standout by far and something I wish I’d heard more of through the album.”
