Description

Well, Ugh! is back with their third full length CD. The basic hard to describe sound is intact, but many of the songs are a bit more melodic in some way and a few tracks a bit psychedelic. I still find this band very hard to describe after many listens. I think if you were a fan of their previous two records you will probably dig this one as well. Special music by a special band. This is pretty hard rocking stoner style rock but a bit noisier and in your face at times with strange and unusual rhythms… a stoner no means no or sorts. I find it hard to describe, so that is a good thing.

Noise Rock in the tradition of the 90s Alternative Tentacles with the influence of bands from Jesus Lizard to Zen Guerilla became a quite rare sonic texture these days between the worlds of Stoner rock and the dark edge of current Sludge, Drone and Doom.
Originating from the Noise Rock combo Tailgate, UGH! managed to create a completely unique musical world of their own.
Neck breaking uneven rhythms and melodies that stick to the ear, unexpected twists and catchy riffs go along with a deep sense of humour and weltschmerz as well. UGH! makes an artistic statement no-one who is into hard and deep music should miss!

“Stoner? Noise? Sludge? Doom? Absolutely Rock! And very loud, brutal and forward oppressive. They grooving hard to make psychedelic experimentation with unconventional sounds, flirt, sometimes even with the Melvins or sound like a rough and Thus, better version of Smoke Blow. They do not shy with sound interjections, quotations, or even a saxophone or a violin to experiment. It Rock reduces the their very dirty any way, but raises them from the multitude of all the other heavy-stoner-rockers very nice show. ELEKTROHASCH The label by COLOUR HAZE head STEFAN Koglek, here has come across a band released the differently but just as powerful and above all, as well as the independent rock label flagship COLOUR HAZE

“Stoner? Noise? Sludge? Doom?

I liked Ugh! even before I heard a note of their album. First off was the band name. Secondly was the cover for Meat Fairies. As Meat Fairies unfolds, theres more and more to like about the album. It could be compared to shrooming things progress into the weird before you notice. The punkish boogie stomp of Roach gets replaced by the Totimoshi-like He, which morphs further on down the line into the skittish groove of Hogfather. By the time you reach Ginko, theyre throwing in a sax solo, just for the hell of it. She, the final track, burns slower than the others, but its languid pace is just as turbulent overall as the previous tracks. With the sound of falling rain in the background and the violin solo, it could be considered acid western music gloomy and morose.

This is odd music for odd people. I dig it plenty. If youre looking for something new to playfully mess with your head, check out Ugh! And leave some bacon out for the meat fairies.
