5.0 out of 5 stars Only one word for it – Breathtaking!,
Glitter is The Urbane’s second album but, unless you know John Mitchell from Arena, you’re unlikely to have heard of them. But don’t let this put you off because glitter is quite outstanding. It is nothing like Arena: this is mainstream music for mainstream fans and it’s as good as it gets. Mitchell, who is the band’s singer and guitarist, is quite phenomenal and must be ranked as one of the very best guitarists in the world, while his voice is full of power and emotion. The music varies greatly in style, ranging from thumping Foo Fighters style rock to melodic ballads reminiscent of Counting Crows, while the stuff in between is similar to Radiohead. The highlights of the album are the opening track, Chainsmoking, which is instantly appealing to all rock fans with its power and a fantastic conclusion similar to Stiltskin’s Inside, Beautiful Sun, which starts really quietly and gets progressively louder, building to a great climax, my personal favourite, Cut The Wire, which has a dramatic and unexpected change of pace and contains outstanding guitar work, the sheer power of Give It Away and the moody, hidden track, Manhattan, which is a brilliant end to the album, quiet but emotional. In conclusion, if you like rock music, buy this album. If you don’t, buy it and change your mind. While The Darkness are living in the past, The Urbane are setting the standards for a new era. Nothing you’ll hear on the radio can touch this album. Buy it. You will not regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Fantastic!,
Its hard to describe “”The Urbane””. They are similar in some ways to “”Radiohead””, or early “”Foo Fighters””. But they somehow carry it off better than either of those bands can. Its clever rock, loud and catchy but never abrasive. The melodies are spot on and in songs like “”Suffocate”” really catch at your heart. The highlights on the album have to be the powerful “”Chainsmoking””, I challenge you not to jump up and down playing air guitar during the chorus! The bonus track, which is laden with melody (and somehow makes me think of “”counting crows””), and the fantastic cover of Cyndi Lauper‘s “”Time after Time””! This is one of those albums which grows on you, in my opinion it is these albums that I can keep enjoying over and over again. It deserves to sell well, there is plenty of tracks that would make great singles, this album would trounce anything that I have heard on the radio in the last year. Go out and buy it!
