SUPER-NOT Phlegmatic Sun
YPERANO RECORDS/BERTUS distribution. Well, the old Metallica… What impact has this music had on the total metal scene and how many bands have been influenced by it? No one was surprised by one more, but when a band has influences from the ‘new’ Metallica in it, one is curious about the result. The Canadian band Super-Not was influenced by Lars and Co., that much becomes clear when listening to this <<Phlegmatic Sun>>. Not only musically, but certainly also in terms of vocals, since the singer of the band often comes across as a brother of James Hetfield. In this regard, just listen to the intro of <<Cyanide & Concrete». Of course it will not be accurate to label Super-Not as a Metallica clone, because at certain moments other influences are present. For example, a song like «<Sorrow’s Eve», also because of the slightly different vocals, goes towards Alice In Chains / Kyuss and Black Sabbath («Needle In The I»). In «<…And Now I Want» a mechanical drum rhythm suddenly rears its head. It should also be mentioned that Harem Scarem singer Harry Hess provided a clear and powerful, but unfortunately just a bit too clinical production (live everything will undoubtedly be a lot more raw) The CD closes with a passionate version of the Doors- classic «Break On Through (To The Other Side)».

LESS THAN HUMAN
To Breed True YPERANO RECORDS/BERTUS distribution
For those who don’t like the current direction of Machine Head anymore and who fondly think back to the days of «Burn My Eyes», this might be a nice CD. The Greek Less Than Human has released  «To Breed True» that is completely in line with that legendary debut of the band from San Francisco. Not only -it is the music in the same vein with aggressive ‘in-your-face’-metal that, in addition to faster passages, also contains sufficient groove and melody 2); the singing style of singer/bassist Dimitris Traskas also fits seamlessly. On a first superficial listen, terms such as  ‘plagiarism’ may come to mind, but after a few listens <<To Breed True>> turns out to be quite an enjoyable disc, on which eleven catchy and reasonably compact songs that are definitely recommended for fans of solid, modern sounding metal with a strong wink towards thrash. There is nothing to complain about the sound of the disc with John Cuniberti (Joe Satriani) behind the buttons, while these buttons themselves were twisted in the Abbey Road Studio. As said, a fine CD; a little more originality, would probably have scored one more point.
