5.0 out of 5 stars Supergroup Jing Chis ‘3D’ is another triumph,
The third release of the blues/jazz/fusion supergroup Jing Chi is an amazing mixture of the afore mentioned music.
‘3D’ brings together again blues guitarist Robben Ford, bassist Jimmy Haslip of the Yellowjackets and Zappa drummer Vinnie Colaiuta. These three veteran musicians together is just a great musical combination.
Just like Jing Chis previous releases; their self-titled debut album and their live album, these guys are always putting out an outstanding and distinctive sound.
You can tell that with each CD they release they sound better each time.
This disc in my opinion, is their best to date.
From the opening track ‘Colonel Panic’ to the final number ‘Wires Tangled Up’this disc will blow you away.
Theres also a guest vocal by blues great Robert Cray on ‘Its Nobodys Fault But Mine’.
This disc has me looking forward for the next one. Check it out!

5.0 out of 5 stars solid electric jazz to twist your ear,
Truth be told, this is not an album for everyone. However, being a musician, it has been continuously pleasurable over many listenings. Robben and Vinnie are as good as they come. Its a fabulous recording audio-wise, but it might be tough to dance to…that’s not what its for. This group strikes me as a coming together of three fabulous musicians doing a project that is driven by their own tones and desires, and not commercial popularity. This is very evident by the skeletal nature of many of the tracks on both studio records, and extrapolation over those musical vehicles taken to extremely groovy places. Strongly recommended if you like to listen to great musicians having an obvious blast making strange, beautiful noise….

5.0 out of 5 starstook me away but what was even more lovely was there was a 2nd disc with the same fantastic jams from experts
What a jamming album, what music, took me away but what was even more lovely was there was a 2nd disc with the same fantastic jams from experts.

5.0 out of 5 starsBRILLIANT!!
If you like any of these outstanding musicians, you will simply love this album! Well worth the money, and several listens. I bought this one after purchasing the first one, without sampling the audio at all. It is friggin’ fantastic!
Give your ears a present!

5.0 out of 5 starsHigh on the 5!
Great musicians doing what they do best. It’s rock, jazz, funk and rock fusion. The cd was sold at a great price too.

5.0 out of 5 starsA MUSICAL FRONTIER IN FUSION
The more I listen to this project the more I admire the musicianship that went into it. My favourite tracks are 2, 4 and 6 primarily because they are the main three that go off of the beaten path into multi-dimensional expression. There’s a lot going on in them, but nothing that gets in the way of anything in them.
What I pick up from Track 2 is an overall exotic vibe – i.e. the Asian tone the opening strings set for the tune, the African feel that Jimmy delivers on bass, and Vinnie’s choice of patterns and “voice work” toms and cymbals to enhance that air of mystery throughout. Track 4 is a 3/4 rock-infused fusion piece, largely due to Robben’s work on guitar, with excellent delivery of
driving energy from all players. Track 6 is a 9-count jazz-fusion piece with a combination of sensibilities that Spyro Gyra and Weather Report would record. Its mysterious splashes and rhythmic grooves are bridged by a good dose of soulful syncopation.
I agree that this project is not for the average listener, but anyone with a sincere interest in fusion or oddballs like me who are instantly attracted to the unusual will like this one.
