Chris Rea’s ‘The road to hell’ was written about the frustrations of driving on the M25 (the ring road around London, England) during rush hour. Its strange how such a boring subject can lead to such a great song. It was the title track of his 1989 album, which featured two parts of the track.
Part 2 was released as a single. The single reached number 10 in the UK singles chart. In 2009, the song inspired the title of a crime novel by northeast author Sheila Quigley, ‘The road to hell’, the fifth book in the Seahills series of novels.

Chirs Rea – He should know better
That is going round
He should know better
That boy’s got dust for brains
After all this time
Now things, oh, can never be the same
Always straight, always cool
Endless style, nobody’s fool
And always with the grace and superb manner
Left them spinning in his way
And stepped straight on the yellow skin banana
The black night
He makes his way
Regretfully into the morning fog
Now all his bones their gonna break
To the curse and laughing smile
Of the little green frog
