Pete Way was the original bass guitarist and founder member of British hard rockers UFO. In 1982, after making 10 studio LPs with UFO since their 1969 start, Pete left, initially to play bass with Ozzy Osbourne as well as briefly forming Fastway with Motorhead’s “Fast” Eddie Clarke. Then in 1983 he formed Waysted.

After releasing their debut album “Vices” in 1983 on Chrysalis, before switching to Music For Nations for the release of “Waysted” (1984) and “The Good The Bad And The Waysted” (1985), the band signed to EMI’s Parlophone label in 1986 for the release of “Save Your Prayers”.

Waysted is the hard rock band formed by former UFO bassist, Pete Way. Save Your Prayers is the bands’ fourth studio disc, and first featuring vocalist Danny Vaughn. This is the highest charting release (#185) for Waysted to date.

Save Your Prayers starts with a very good upbeat rocker Walls Fall Down. Black and Blue was a small hit in the U.S.

Former UFO guitarist Paul Chapman cuts loose on Heroes Die Young. His guitar work on this song is superb. If you aren’t singing along with Danny Vaughn before this song is done, you need to have your head examined. This is a lost classic that should have helped Waysted become a household name.

Heaven Tonight may be the song that everyone remembers Waysted for. The band re-recorded this track which originally was on their The Good, The Bad, The Waysted disc from 1985. This is a killer track, and almost makes Save Your Prayers worth picking up for this song alone.

How The Wast Was Won is a very good keyboard/guitar driven rocker that reminds me somewhat of some the hard rocking songs by Journey.

Wild Night is a high-speed, head banging tune. Paul Chapman breaks loose on this track, and drummer Johnny Dee pounds the hell out of his drums and makes himself heard.

Something about Out of Control reminds me a ton of Y&T. Danny Vaughn sounds a lot like Dave Meniketti on this track. It is one of the heavier tracks on Save Your Prayers.

A great power ballad So Long closes this disc. Danny Vaughn’s voice shines on this track.

After listening to Waysted’s Save Your Prayers you will realise how under rated this band is. Save Your Prayers is a very good melodic hard rock disc, and still a worthy pick up. Its well worth your money. Check it Out!

This is by far the best of the Waysted offerings. It is great to hark back to a time when Pete Way produced music as good as this. The cultured vocals of Danny Vaughan replacing the rough Scottish tones of former(and now current) vocalist Finn. Paul Chapman in combination with Pete Way cant help but produce a sound of the UFO albums they recorded together. Hence you have got a quality LP here. Highlight is probably a previous “”Finn”” song re-recorded – “”Heaven tonight”” – Danny’s voice takes this track to another level.

Ένας από τους λόγους που  μου αρέσει τα 80’s είναι ότι ξανακούς δίσκους που είχες “ξεχασμένους” στο ράφι. Mια τέτοια περίπτωση είναι και αυτό το άλμπουμ των Βρετανών WAYSTED, που μάλλον είχα 25 χρόνια να το ακούσω.

Οι WAYSTED είναι ξεχασμένοι πια, αλλά πίσω στο πρώτο μισό των 80’s ήταν ένα καυτό όνομα μιας και ήταν το προσωπικό σχήμα του Pete Way, μπασίστα των UFO.

Στον τρίτο του δίσκο ο Way έχει μαζί του τον πρώην UFO κιθαρίστα Paul Chapman (ο αντικαταστάτης του Μichael Schenker στους UFO) και μια νέα σπουδαία φωνή, τον Danny Vaughn (που λίγα χρόνια αργότερα θα δημιουργήσει τους ΤΥΚΕΤΤΟ και θα λατρευτεί από τους θιασώτες τους μελωδικού hard rock).

Οι WAYSTED ήταν πολύ αξιόλογο σχήμα σε ότι και να κυκλοφόρησαν, εδώ παρουσιάζουν ένα εξαιρετικό αποτέλεσμα μίξης Αμερικάνικου και Βρετανικού metal. Κομμάτια σαν τα “Walls fall down”, “Wild night” και “Heroes die young” (υπέρτατος ύμνος- με διαφορά το καλύτερο κομμάτι εδώ μέσα) είναι εξαιρετικά καθαρόαιμα metal κομμάτια που μας θυμίζουν κατά κάποιο τρόπο το metal παρελθόν και την ιστορία του Pete Way στο χώρο. Όταν αποφασίζουν να παίξουν πιο “αμερικάνικα” το κάνουν εξίσου καλά και εξέχοντος ποιοτικά όπως ακούγονται σε κομμάτια όπως το “How the west was won”, “Heaven tonight”, “So Long”, “Hell comes home”και “Singing to the night”.

Η φωνή του Vaughn και η ερμηνεία του απογειώνει τα κομμάτια αλλά σε μεγάλα εκτελεστικά κέφια βρίσκονται και οι Way/Chapmann , που είναι και οι κύριοι συνθέτες του συνόλου των κομματιών. Το “Save your prayers είναι ένας δίσκος με εξαιρετικά κομμάτια και με χαρά διαπιστώνω ότι έχει διατηρήσει την φρεσκάδα του, παρά το πέρασμα του χρόνου. Αν το πετύχετε πουθενά, αξίζει και με το παραπάνω να ασχοληθείτε μαζί του. Προς το παρόν πατήστε στο “Ηeroes die young” και απολαύστε ένα μοναδικό κομμάτι, από αυτά που δεν γράφονται κάθε μέρα.

Being a big fan of Tyketto and Danny Vaughn’s voice, I really liked this album. Waysted were one of those bands that several band members went off to make it with other bands, Vaughn went to Tyketto and Johnny Dee of Britny Fox toured with these guys once.

This band is great. Wonderful vocals by Danny and the music if great. At times I forget who I’m listening to and think of Tyketto. You can hear where they got their sound from. Get this Album

What an incredible freshman effort from a then unknown Danny Vaughn! Simply awesome… Nothing like vices, pure melodic paradise!

Most people do not know this and probably don’t care but the drummer on this CD is the drummer from BRITNY FOX, Johnny Dee.  I really like this one. My favs are Hell comes home, ‘Heroes die young’,’so long’ and Heaven tonight. Danny has been kissed by the gods of AOR, his voice is awesome. One of my favorite all time singers, together with Kelly Hansen(Hurricane). Currently, I find myself day after day singing the chorus to ‘Heaven Tonight’. Man, that was a fucking catchy song. Whomever wrote that melody sure wrote one that lasts. Awesome song.

Well i thought this was a great melodic rock album and pete way could always pen a good tune (listen to wild willing by ufo!) If you liked the first two Tyketto albums, this is a  MUST own. I know it’s expensive, rare and you may have one less leg, arm or testicle after you buy it, but damn! it’s good. ‘Heaven Tonight’ is pure AOR heaven… probably the best thing Danny Vaughn has ever sung. ‘How the West was Won’ is also tailor-made for his singing style. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Η επιλογή του Save Your Prayers (1986) σαν ένα από τα καλύτερα τους άλμπουμ των Waysted ήταν εύκολη, αφού με διαφορά είναι το καλύτερο της δισκογραφίας τους, που παρεμπιπτόντως δεν είχε μέτριο άλμπουμ. Η βασική κινητήρια δύναμη τους ήταν ο ιδρυτής και μπασίστας Pete Way (UFO) με τον επίσης πρώην UFO κιθαρίστα Paul Chapman. Δίπλα τους ο ντράμερ John DiTeodoro κι ο 24χρονος Danny Vaughn (μετέπειτα Tyketto)που τον έφερε στο συγκρότημα ο Chapman. Το Save Your Prayers, τρίτο άλμπουμ στη δισκογραφία τους, διαφέρει όμως πολύ από τα άλλα άλμπουμ των Waysted αφού η στροφή του στον αμερικάνικο A.O.R.ήχο είναι κάτι παραπάνω από εμφανής. Κι αν το “Walls fall down”που ανοίγει το άλμπουμ είναι ένα πολύ καλό δείγμα της γενικής αισθητικής του άλμπουμ, από το αμέσως επόμενο (που είναι το “Black and Blue”) και μετά, ο ήχος τους ακούγεται σαν Journey. Ακόμα και τα φωνητικά του νεαρού κι άγνωστου τότε, Danny Vaughn, φέρνουν σε Steve Perry αλλά γενικά, το A.O.R/Melodic στοιχείο επικρατεί κατά κράτος. Τραγούδι- τραγούδι, οι Waysted κτίζουν ένα πολύ καλό μελωδικό άλμπουμ, που αδικαιολόγητα πέρασε και δεν άγγιξε στην Αμερική (Νο 185) ενώ είναι φανερό ότι το δούλεψαν για αυτή την αγορά. Ένα άλλο τραγούδι που ξεχωρίζει είναι το “Heaven Tonight” που είχε πρωτοπαρουσιαστεί στο The Good the Bad the Waysted (1985) που στην καινούργια του ηχογράφηση ακούγεται πιο γυαλισμένο και πιο…Journey και δίπλα σε αυτό ξεχωρίζουν και τα “Out of Control” και “Hero’s die young”. Ήθελα να ήξερα, πόσοι «προφήτες» είχαν δει το μέλλον και τις ικανότητες του Vaughn, ο οποίος στις μετέπειτα συνεντεύξεις του για αυτή την περιπέτειά του, είχε δηλώσει απογοητευμένος από τους Chapman-Way που είχαν καρπωθεί όλα τα συνθετικά δικαιώματα. Το Save Your Prayers με τον Pete Way αραχτό στο εξώφυλλο, είχε όλα τα προσόντα για να ξεχωρίσει αλλά δεν τα κατάφερε. Τουλάχιστον το έχουν ανακαλύψει οι A.O.R fans!
