What a blast! An explosion of sound… I totally dig it! – Billy Sheehan

One of the best instrumental records and some of the best drumming I’ve heard in a long time. – Carmine Appice

About the Artist
Having toured the world as David Lee Roths band and appeared on his “Diamond Dave” CD, the Hideous Sun Demons will release their self-titled debut album of all instrumental tracks.
Formed by longtime Roth drummer, Ray Luzier (now with Korn and previously with Jonathan Davis and the SFA, Army of Anyone, Jake E. Lee, Stone Temple Pilots, David Lee Roth, The Nixons, Tracy G, Billy Sheehan), the band began to take shape when Japanese guitarist, Toshi Hiketa, was brought on board. DLR bassist, James Lomenzo, became interested in the project and the three players began to write material together.

Each member has recorded extensively with household names from the world of rock n roll. In addition, they have all been involved as music instructors at prestigious music schools such as GIT, Osaka School Of Music and PIT.

Product Description
From very structured pieces to wide open jams, The Hideous Sun Demons cover a vast array of styles. With a love of classic science fiction and horror movies, The Hideous Sun Demons have vowed to stake their claim in the musically high tech world inhabited by such musical super heroes as Liquid Tension Experiment, Niacin and Bozzio Levin Stevens. As a result the group naturally gravitated to Magna Carta as their musical home.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you like great music as well as top notch musicianship, get this CD,
I have always loved hard rock/heavy metal music. Although my taste in music is quite varied to include jazz, latin, even country, there is nothing like a good hard rock song to get you going. Besides rock I really liked fusion like Stanley Clarkes School Days, Tomy Bolins Teaser, and Zappas 70s gems like Apostophe/Overnight Sensation. But its been very difficult to find music in that vein with great songs and great musicians with killer chops.

A few years back I discovered Dream Theater which lead to Liquid Tension Expirement, and then all of the great musicians on the Magna Carta label. I’ve also been able to find out about many great bands you won’t hear on the radio from Modern Drummer magazine. Thats what lead me to a drum instruction DVD by Ray Luzier, which by the way is excellant also. At the end of the DVD there were some smokin’ live cuts with Ray performing songs by the Demons and songs he did with Billy Sheehan. Thats how I found out about this Hideous Sun Demons CD.

If you love to hear quality musicianship AND great songs, this CD is great. Its not all metal, there is some latin flavored and jazz flavored stuff here, but over all this CD rocks. The first 3 cuts are awesome. And the song and playing on Mummy is absolutely fantastic. The drums in the middle section are unreal, it sounds like four drummers. Ray Luzier has quickly moved into the top list of my favorite drummers along with Ralph Humphrey, Ian Paice, Mike Portnoy, Terry Bozzio, Neil Peart, Omar Hakim, etc. But the other band members are just as exting to listen to. Great hard rock, fusion, whatever. Just a great first CD that rocks.

5.0 out of 5 stars First Rate Instrumental Fusion Outing,
This is top notch instrumental jazz/rock guitar dominated fusion by three virtuosos who can play both soft and hard, but look out when they crank up the amps. Luziers drumming is absolutely amazing and drives this power trio into overdrive. Hiketa displays massive guitar chops. This album must be played LOUD. It would be a shame if this remarkable debut was the only recording to be released by the original band. Most highly recommended, especially if you are a fan of Liquid Tension Experiment, Joe Satriani, Niacin, or Jeff Becks techno-grunge era.

5.0 out of 5 stars and there was light (aka the Sun) and it was damn good…,
Wow! I had a feeling that as DLRs back-up musicians these boys had been held back. This is a great album from start to finish. They play very well together and off of each other. The genre is all over the place… Funk, Hard Rock and mayhaps some Metal. Are they showing off? Helk ya! and why not! This album has been compared (by Magna Carta) to LTE and Bozzio, Levins and Stevens (not acceptable to use the abrieviation BLS due to LoMenzos ties with Black Label Society). I feel it is a harder taste than Bozzio, Levins and Stevens. Also… not that Stevens’ flamenco flare is a bad thing. Yet I did not mind Hiketas style at all and did not miss the flamenco. “J-Lo” is a great bassist. Ray Luzier has no problem showing his stuff. He is an exceptional drummer. It is safe to say that due to Billy Sheehans receiving the spotlight in Cosmic Troubadour, Ray Luzier had to hold back. On this album it would have been nice to hear his fills spread out on more than the snare (some more). I am interested in why Luzier thanks Mark Zonder in the credits.
Great album! Get a copy before it is sold out!
