Sucking the 70s is a two disk collection of 1970s songs covered by modern stoner rock bands. It was put out by Small Stone Records in 2002. A second album, Sucking the 70s Back in the Saddle Again, was released in 2006. The album title is a reference to the Rolling Stones compilation Sucking in the Seventies.

Trying to breath life into 70’s classics ain’t that easy; yet these bands pull it off. Standouts include Spirit Caravan kicking the sh&t out of Sabbaths “Wicked World”; history will show Wino is God and not Clapton. Novadriver’s cover of T-Rex’s “20th Century Boy” rocks heavy, really heavy. Clutch doing Cross-eyed Mary?!?!? Sweet! I would definitely recommend this album to anybody that likes rock music of any sort. Buy…well worthy.
Great collection for anyone interested in sampling some Stoner & interested in making further purchases.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fan-freakin’-tastic,
Incredible 2-disc compilation. 95% of the songs rule, and other 5% are still tolerable. Almost 40 terrific rock bands of today play some of the best songs of the 1970s, and the result will impress you. Especially watch out for covers by Suplecs, Five Horse Johnson, Scott Reeder (Unida, ex-Kyuss, ex-Obsessed), Throttlerod, Alabama Thunderpussy, Clutch, and Raging Slab. If you’re still a big fan of the vinyl age of rock-n-roll, “Sucking the 70s” is for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars This CD is awesome,
These guys took some 70’s songs I knew and some I’ve never heard and really did a bang up job on the covers. They added a little more power to them and sped up the groove a little bit. Definitely an album you can listen to from cover to cover
