Glam-rockers Slade are best known for their 1973 smash hit Merry Xmas Everybody, which is still wheeled out every December to soundtrack shops and radio shows in the run-up to Christmas. They were the most commercially successful glam-rock band in Britain in the early ’70s, outperforming competitors like David Bowie, T. Rex and Roxy Music. In fact their singles sales were better than any rock act

1972 album by the British Glam/Rock superstars. By the time that the slayed?’ album arrived in September 1972, Slade had scored their third British No.1 single with ‘Mama Weer All Crazee Now‘, which was included on side two of the LP. slayed?’ has been called “music to wreck concert halls to”, and its a description that few familiar with it would choose to refute. Aside from ‘Mama Weer All Crazee Now’ and ‘Gudbuy T’Jane‘, the latter a No. two hit in November ’72, it was swelled by self-penned nuggets like ‘How D’You Ride’ and ‘The Whole Worlds Goin’ Crazee’, plus the 2 covers of Janis Joplins ‘Move Over’ and ‘Let The Good Times Roll’ by Shirley Goodman & Leonard Lee, both of which were regulars in their live repertoire. New Musical Express hailed slayed?’ as “one of the greatest rock ‘n’ roll releases ever,” and it remains one of the bands best-loved long players. Crank up the volume and go crazee!

5.0 out of 5 stars  Excellent Good Time HI-NRG Rock & Roll,
It is just really FUN rock and roll music. Very energizing and contagious in terms of creating a good mood. Did you ever want to listen to a band just for fun? Well, Slade were really a band of Rock and Roll Rogues and they’ll kill you with their straight ahead rock, simple but tasty guitar solos, and Noddys great sandpaper iron lunged voice. Dare I say…Party Music? I like How to you ride, Were All Crazee Now, G’bye to Jane, and the second cut “we all get our kicks playing in a rock and roll band.” Great lyrics abound such as “I got a rock and roll reputation I got to try a lot of new things today” “you know I turned my first car over” “don’t you think its funny we’re only in it for the money?” These guys will have you laughing and smiling. Every song on the album is a winner and the stand out tracks out number the very good ones. Lotsa crunchy guitar. Yum!
