Cloak And Dagger

A side – Cloak And Dagger
B side – Too Late For The Hunter

7 Inch, Jet Records JET 7049 UK 1987

After Alan Marsh was pushed out of Tokyo Blade by Powerstation Records, he bounced back with Shogun, formed with Chinatown’s Danny Gwilym.
1987 saw the band engage ex Tokyo Blade players Andy Wrighton (Bass), Steve Pearce (Drums) and sign to JET records before releasing their second album (so called because the album tracks were written and recorded in one month). JET released a single, “Cloak and Dagger” in 7″. The band featured yet another line up for 1988 with keyboards (Andy Higgins) after the departure of Toby Martin. Andy Robbins (another ex-Tokyo Blade man) was brought in on the bass and the band was at its rockingest best when supporting Meatloafs UK tour of that year. Late 1988 and the band went to Los Angeles in late ’88 to re-mix the ballad “Voices from the heart”. The job was done by producer Bob Ezrin (Pink Floyd & Rod Stuart producer) at “One on one” studios in Hollywood and was released as a 7″ and 12″ single. The 31 days album is available with either version of this track depending on the albums release date. A few months after the Meatloaf tour, the band parted company with JET Records. The line up disintegrated with Andy Robbins (Bass) going on to join the UK band “Skin”. Danny and Alan continued to write together and wrote and recorded 13 tracks which were never released. Shortly after this, the band parted company with its management and Danny and Alan lost contact for a while before coming together again with Andy Boulton (Tokyo Blade) to form a new outfit called “Mr. Ice”…

Cloak And Dagger
(Gwilym/Marsh)

In the dark of the night and theres no more light
I’m running away and theres no place to hide
Theres a man in the shadows with that look in his eyes
And I’m of creeping around like a thief in the night

Bridge#1
My body shakes with anticipation
Feels so hot, a burning sensation
My nerves in shock, a bad situation
Midnight hour assignation

Chorus
Tonight, cloak and dagger
Another late night rendezvous
I gotta get myself together
Gotta make it home to you

Its ten after twelve and theres still no sign
I’m cold and I’m tired and its way past time
Then I hear a noise coming from behind
It sends a shiver down my spine

Bridge#2
I turn around with anticipation
Midnight hour assassination

Chorus

What am I to do?

I turn around with anticipation
Full of fire and confrontation
My hands shake, a bad situation
Midnight hour assassination

Solo
Chorus

Too Late For The Hunter
(Gwilym/Marsh)

I see the fire in the sky
Blinding light that fills the air
Storm clouds gather, thunder rolls
Lightning strikes through the heart

In the dark of the night
Lonely voices fill the air
Dead or alive, blood for money
Caught in the crossfire city nights

Chorus
I see a smile on his face
Too late for the hunter
All is lost without a trace
Too late for the hunter
Pressures high, its gonna blow
Too late for the hunter
Look out girl, he’ll steal the show
Too late for the hunter

City lights, the storm is breaking, wild boys gotta gun
Tonights the night, look of evil in his eyes, dark night , in the city
Warning lights, theres danger everywhere, you’d better open your eyes
Hes on the run, shadow in the night, loaded gun in his hand

Chorus
Solo
Chorus

Its too late for the hunter (ad infinitum)
