“The Sweetest Taboo” is the lead single from the English group Sades second studio album, Promise (1985). While the song peaked at number thirty-one on the UK Singles Chart, it fared considerably better in the U.S., where it reached number five on the Billboard Hot 100 in March 1986, remaining in the top forty for thirteen weeks. It also became the bands second consecutive number-one hit on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart, following “Smooth Operator”.
