Glass Casket – In Between The Sheets

By H. Ross Mcneil “”Ross”” (north cakalaki…a metal haven)
this album sounds like noise until you listen to it several times. After that it will become one of your favorite albums and nothing sounds as heavy or intense after listening to this album. I prefer these guys over BTBAM.

5.0 out of 5 stars Metalcore on the DeathishGrind level.
From NC comes another metalcore band that wants to twist and shake things up a bit. We are Gathered Here Today to talk about the band Glass Casket. 5.0 out of 5 stars lady when your eyes have lost all their light find strength in my life,
When I first put this cd in the player at work and “”pencil lead syringe”” kicked in, I thought to myself, “”Eh, they’re ok…”” in the beginning of the said song, i thought it was a little cheesy and cliche how he repeats “”I’m Sorry”” a few times. So the album chugged along with relentless bone-grinding guitar parts, some dillinger-esque math here and there, death growls, and blast beats, until the album got to track 7,””scarlet paint and gasoline,”” in which the song completely switches gears from pummeling grind to an clean guitar part with death growls overtop (which is a combination I’m not exactly partial to, typically)and builds up with a well thought out melodic solo into a frigging SWEET tapping part. At this point I was like “”Woah! maybe there’s more to this band than I initially thought…”” and then in “”in between the sheets”” there’s that, like 5 seconds of actual singing, it COMPLETELY put the whole album, as well as what the band was trying to accomplish, into perspective for me. And as for “”a gray a.m. you will never get to see,”” the closer, it is WITHOUT A DOUBT one of the most powerful songs I have EVER heard. Its just so passionate and vulnerable, about how Adam Cody (the singer) lost his sister to a car accident, and then he almost crashed his car in the same spot. For him to actually write this song about the experience and his loss must have been so difficult, I cannot even fathom…you can hear completely the pain and catharsis in his vocals in the last 3 minutes of the song, and those last 3 minutes give me goosebumps like nothing I have ever experienced before.
This album is beyond amazing– each track is better than the last, and there is absolutely no weak point. If you are into death/tech metal, you must own this album. bottom line.

5.0 out of 5 stars another great band from north carolina.
think this is just another BTBAM copy? think different. 2 vocal styles, downtuned guitars, and technical drum beats make this cd very different from its peers. they are an amazing band and they are the nicest guys.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard hitting,
This band seems to get a lot of comparisons to Between the Buried and Me. Why? It is beyond me. BTBAM have some annoying wuss sections that often ruin what might have been a perfectly good song, Mordecai for example. Glass Casket avoid these and stick to the conventional heavy stuff with screaming vocals and the occasional worryingly low growl (sometimes I think this guy’s testicles dropped twice). There’s no singing here, apart from in the song In Between the Sheets, where he sings 7 words, which lasts about 5 seconds. The band overall are extremely heavy, slightly catchy at times, bassy, and have some of the most amazing drum rolls ever. As for how the guitarists keep going for the period of one song at the speed they do is incredible. A part of me thinks they stop halfway for a little chat over a cup of tea and then resume later. As for the band, they all look the part for sure, except the vocalist, who looks a bit gay and has possibly the worst hair I have ever seen. But then, don’t judge a book by it’s cover right? Best songs are, Pencil Lead Syringe, And So It Was Said and In Between the Sheets.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chew Your Fingers,
This band is great. They are very talented and have their own sound. Many people seem to think they sound like BTBAM, but they show little resemblance. The singing is much deeper and brutal than them. The riffs in general are as well. There is more structure than BTBAM and other tech metal bands, which I prefer. I can’t listen to Dillenger for hours straight like I could this band. Unlike bands like Dillenger, they can appeal to a much wider audience. I wouldn’t even classify this album as tech metal, now that I think of it since there isn’t much technicality, but just great riffs complimented with nice drumming and a great singer. The lyrics are lacking, but the overall mood is awesome. I hope these guys come to the New England Metal/Hardcorefest again this year, because these guys are great. Catchy songs with plenty of fun, in my eyes.

5.0 out of 5 stars The future of metal,
If you like technical brutal metalcore than I highly recommend you pick this CD up. This is Glass Casket’s first release and based on this disc I see strong future for this band. Musically these guys sound like The Red Chord, Between the Buried and Me or On Broken Wings, but they put their own spin on all of their songs. Each song has something surprising about it, with plenty of crazy time changes, brutal breakdowns, double bass drum attacks, gutteral vocal assaults. This is one of the heaviest CDs I’ve ever heard it’s just plain all out brutal insanity. If I were to guess two bands that were about to make it big and change the overall metal scene it would be Glass Casket and The Red Chord, these two bands will be huge someday soon. I recommend every song on this CD, they are all brutal and amazing.
