Description

Very heavy sludge-obsessed death metal permeates this album, giving it a very dark, sick feeling. As the guitars pound out the sloooow Doomy riffs with mind-numbing precision, a two-pronged vocal assault consisting of ultralow death metal growls and abrasive black metal screams merge together, and intermingle with a fine rhythm team (the bass player adds a lot of color to the second track, “”Mask””) and some rather strange sounds and ominous introductions, which ensures that the band’s highly rhythmic slow-motion jackhammer guitar barrage does not get too overwhelming and ultimately lose its impact. The third track, “”Lambs””, features additional vocals by Steev Esquivel of (Skinlab/Defiance), and begins with another creepy introduction (this one particularly effective) that smoothly segues into heavier guitar parts and unintelligible death growls. While this type of sludge-filled dirge has the potential to be quite a tedious listening experience, Mudslinger’s solid songwriting, vocal variation, and ability to interject a good dose of weirdness into the fray allows the band to succeed in this style of music, where many, many others have failed. This band includes ex- members of the technical death metal band called Thanatopsis

Present day doom metal, rather sludge metal to be more exact. A side project true to its name, with members of prominent bay area bands, Vile and Thanatopsis. Composed of Juan Urteaga on vocals, Dave Couch on Guitars, Lars Von Lowen on Bass and Ron Pfifer on drums. This side project endeavoured to take metal to a slow paced and still technical realm of brutality. Death style of vocals and experimental voicings not possible in Vile, Juan’s vocal style gives this slow paced quartet the dark and muddy thickness it deserves. Using detuned 7-string guitars and a 5-string contoured bass, together with a single bass kit that demands to go slow.
