‘Animal Army’ is fantastic. I wish they still made music like this. Jas Manns sneer is slightly reminiscent of the Stranglers, but this song has an edgy, techno feel to it, especially the build up of the bass reverb towards the end. Its a shame that this didn’t get the recognition it deserved at the time, because its a well crafted song with clever lyrics that actually make a point. Well done Jas Mann, for both the moral highground and the brilliant song.
opens with some drifting vocals and strings that lead into second single Animal Army, and then suddenly we’re thrown into roaring guitars that give this a perfect heavy rock start. Sadly, Jas Mann‘s vocals here are difficult to hear. Occasionally he sounds like he’s trying to emulate the vocal style of Liam Gallagher or Ian Brown. An edit of this track reached #17 in the UK singles chart.
“Animal Army” is a song by Babylon Zoo, released in April 1996 as the second single from their first album The Boy with the X-Ray Eyes and the follow-up to the band’s UK chart-topping debut single “Spaceman“. It was unable to duplicate the success of its predecessor, reaching #17 in the UK Singles Chart and vanishing after a further week in the Top 40. In Australia, “Animal Army” peaked at #59 in June 1996, and spent 6 weeks in the top 100 ARIA singles chart
Lions laugh at the smell of a gun
Ride on the back of an elephant’s shoulders
Tell all your friends your an angel
Animals dance along, animals.
Tyrannosaurus marching towards us
Lions a mass coming out of the grass
Ride on the back of an elephant’s shoulders
Tell all your friends your an angel
Leopards dancing, in my paradise
Animal armies, in my…
Tyrannosaurus marching towards us
Lions a mass coming out of the grass
Ride on the back of an elephant’s shoulders
Tell all your friends your an angel
Leopards dancing, leopards dancing in my paradise
Tigers dancing, tigers dancing in my paradise
Plumb and dandy, chrome and candy in my paradise
Animal armies, animal armies in my…
Tigers dancing, tigers dancing in my paradise
Solar planets, solar planets in my paradise
Animal armies, animal armies in my paradise
