5.0 out of 5 stars I will hang for this review…,
Many, many, many fans will disagree with me on this but this new line-up and set of albums with Tony Dolan (Demolition Man)shows their true musicianship, polished and at their best musically and lyrically. Gone are the cheesy satanic lyrics that have been done over so many times. Prime Evil has better songs, period! The structuring, lyrics, musical content and production make this album my all-time favorites of Venom albums. Ultra heavy riffs, darker vocals than Cronos and complex bass lines Cronos ever could have pulled off. Everyone is stuck in the old realm of Venom, which was in its day friggin awesome but its time to learn to play our instruments a little better and improve with age which they did. Abbaddon is actually playing solid and his timing is down and the guitars are furious with flesh ripping distortion and ear splitting leads that makes this album a blast to listen to! Damn, you don’t need Cronos because Tony sounds just like him but just better! So guys, get over the old line-up already. Pick up some Venom like Prime Evil, Temples of Ice and The Waste Lands and embrace the evolution of Venom metal. Hey, the new albums are good too but these three highlight them at their peak. They are entirely underrated and didn’t receive the respect they deserved because of one missing man that could have gone unnoticed. O.K. Who’s bringing the noose?

5.0 out of 5 stars The foundation for the genius that is Tenacious D,
I have only recently begun to explore the deep, deep roots of metal. Since I grew up as a Christian kid in the 80’s. I would have never done anywhere near any of this music then. A friend of mine had me started listening to Black Sabbath back in 1997. The first time I had ever really listened to them. I thought to myself, “Wow, this is one of the bands that had my church in an uproar? Pfffffftttttt!!!!!” I had been lied to. Their music sounded just a little heavier than a lot of the stuff my parents ever listened too. I am finding that same magic here in a group like Venom. While being evil for evils sake *cough*marketing, it made them stand out from the rest and helped to develop new a new musical sound. I describe the music(in this album), as a mixture of Iron Maiden, Metallica, and Motorhead. And that is just spectacular. As for the Tenacious D reference, Prime Evil oozes Jack Black sweat. You listen to it, its almost silly (ala Grim Reaper being made fun of by Beavis and Butthead) but in a laughing with you not at you. Like Lumberjack by Jackyl.

5.0 out of 5 stars YEAH m/m/,
Venom is true metal! This is another amazing album in the Venom catalogue, this band represents what metal/black metal is all about: killer riffs, evil vocals, great lyrics, awesome drums and awesome song structure, who could ask for more. Venom is also a band that stays true to the awesome sound and music we true fans love.
LOVE THIS! m/m/

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb thrash metal,
“Prime Evil” in 1989 marked the debut of the “new” Venom, the lineup which included original members Abaddon and Mantas, plus guitarist Al Barnes and bassist/ vocalist Tony Dolan. After a fairly dismal (and Mantas-less) album a couple years prior, original singer Cronos high-tailed it out for a solo career, and Mantas returned to restructure and evolve Venom. There is a peculiar phenomenon among rock fans to not accept a new singer in bands. Black Sabbath, Mayhem, Deep Purple, Rainbow, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Saint Vitus, Marillion, Yes, Uriah Heep, Asia, and countless others have experienced this at one or more times during their long careers. No matter how good the music, some fans won’t accept new members. And so it was the case with Venom. “Demolition Man” Dolan is quite obviously a far better singer than Cronos, and arguably a better writer. So make up your own minds, but at least listen first, or whatever you say means squat. This is a good place to start with Venom at any rate. Here Venom pretty much ditches the heavily literal Satanic themes in favor of more abstract darkness; this version of the band didn’t beat it into your heads in other words; they write in such a way as to let your imagination come into play. Every song on this cd is first- rate, every performance is burning. Not only was Venom a far more technically proficient band with this lineup, but also far heavier. “Prime Evil” is not a black metal album (but then again neither were those last two with Cronos, remember…), more of a thrash metal effort with more than a touch of Satan’s inspiration. I love this cd, as well as the next two with Dolan. As another reviewer has mentioned, this, along with “New Live And Rare” and “The Court Of Death” will give you a complete picture of Venom during this period, which to my ears was by far their best.

5.0 out of 5 stars PRIME VENOM,
Prime Evil was the return of Venom with a new vocalist/bass player. Cronos had left the band to form his own group (Cronos) and took both guitarists with him. That only left Abaddon. Abaddon reunited with original guitarist Mantas and the Bulldozer came in on vocals along with rhythm guitarist.
This new line up released a absolutely spectacular album. Prime Evil should have been the album after “At War With Satan”… Prime Evil is just that good! Great fast guitar riffs, an actual good drum sound (rare for Venom), punchy in your face bass lines (rare for bass to even be heard in 1990 thrash metal), and a great vocal performance puts this album on the map.

A cover of Black Sabbaths “Megalomainia” is another reason to get this album! This is the one Sabbath song I cannot think of anyone BUT Venom covering. Unfortunately they do not cover all of the song, just the latter half of it.

Many people dismiss this album since Cronos is not on it, but it was better then anything Venom had done in the past 5 years and better then what Cronos was doing in his own band at the time.

By this album, you will not be disappointed.

Δίσκος τεχνικός, ρυθμικός αλλά και απίστευτα κολασμένος, το “Prime Evil” περιέχει απίστευτες κομματάρες, από το κλασικό ομώνυμο και το “Blackened Are The Priests” μέχρι τα ταχύτατα “Skeletal Dance” και “Into The Fire”.
