Ty Tabor has always been the reason that Kings X have had appeal to music fans. Both his vocal tone and his guitar sound/style have been identifiable and far and away one of the best in this genre. Rock Garden is on a par with the best of Kings X. The guitar sound is both spiky and heavy but is beautifully countered by the vocals.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great release from this guitar guru,
This album is much heavier and more rocking than the 2 previous releases. I guess thats why Ty called it Rock Garden. Its a nice contrast to Safety, which was more focused on melody and even bordered on folk music at times. Don’t get me wrong, Rock Garden is definitely not short on melody, but the crunching guitars and blazing solos definitely showcase Tys rock and roll side and are a testament to his diversity. Simply stated, its a much edgier album than his other two solo efforts. Rock Garden is a personal album, but not overtly so. For the most part Ty writes in the first person, but the themes are universal. Despite dark overtones, the underlying theme is one of guarded optimism. I highly recommend this album to anyone who enjoys thoughtful lyrics set to thunderous guitars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfectly titled…
Rock Garden is perfectly titled. A great place to retreat to with headphones on… a place that really rocks. The guitar sounds on this are, to me, much more Kings X-like. While I love The Jelly Jam work of Ty, the guitar nuances on Rock Garden are much stronger. There’s some great guitar sounds, riffs, melodic lines, soloing, vocals, song-writing… to me its got it all. I keep playing these cuts over and over.

Most of the time, I’ve found solo efforts to be a disappointment, mainly because your expectations are rooted in the parent. This work however, stands completely on its own. If I’d never heard of Kings X, this album would still be awesome. I just love his guitar work… (I hear Phil Keaggy all over it…)

While I’d be hard pressed to rate the cuts, Afraid is the cut that IMHO should be getting serious airplay. Stalker has a great feel, the lyrics are cool on Shes a Tree and Thankful. Seems like every song has a unique strength.

Awesome work, man!!! Don’t know if Ty sees these reviews, but mega-kudos to him for this project. Hope he keeps doing solos things like this, maybe solo touring as well…

Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Only 12 reviews for one of 2006s best releases?,
As many other reviewers have said, Ty Tabor and the rest of Kings X are the most underrated group of musicians out there.

Ty speaks to my soul, as do Dug and Jerry, and Rock Garden is another explosion of beauty that leaves me stunned.

I have 3000 CDs in my collection, and in comparing quality, talent and style, Rock garden is the type of work that in my opinion qualifies as a perfect musical expression.

Ty, you are an amazing creator and musician! Thank you for your hard work and the wonderful music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ty Rocks,
I own all of Ty’s solo stuff and all the Kings X discs, plus a few other side projects that Ty has participated in. I enjoy then all. “Rock Garden” is full of great songs that Ty Tabor fans and fans of Rock music alike will enjoy. Cool harmonies, great guitar and some great grooves…Ty Tabor is one of my all time favourite musicians/song writers. Buy it, you’ll like it!

Love all of his material. One of the best guitarist around. Great live with Kings’X.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great new side project Ty does it again with another new side project. I honestly wish that when Kings X gets together that they would go back to the sound, style and writing of the first four recordings. This project seems to have more of that feel than Kings X does. A great buy for any fan of good song writing, recording and the Beatles flavored rock style that Ty seems to always put out on his own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ty Tabors Rock Garden,
Fantastic. He is a big reason Kings X is such a great band. This album rocks form start to finish.

5.0 out of 5 stars Head Shakin’ Power Pop Rock like Beatles going metal,
This is my favorite side album by a Kings X member. I play this constantly even though I have had it for a long time. I have read many interviews of Tys where he readily admits his John Lennon influence, and that comes through here, especially in Ty’s songwriting. Although he is an unreal guitarist, he is always focused on the song 1st. This album has no misses- every song is great. If you love great melodic hard rock, or if you just love music, you should own this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Guitar balm for the soul,
Seriously, get up right now and buy this sweet masterwork. Put down your beer, stop playing with the old lady, and order this record. When was the last time you smiled after hearing the first notes of song? You will smile a lot with Rock Garden. Ty Tabor has crafted a set of songs that can be likened to a guitar opera. Like an experienced hand on a woman’s body, Ty coaxes all that is gorgeous, expansive, and melodic in a song, while driving guitar riffs- some anthemic in scope- leave the mesmorized listener sated, but wanting more. Ty, the wizard who wields the pick like a wand, conjures melody, harmony, and unexpected chord changes from his instrument as though he plucked them from swirling chromatic vapors and ethereal spheres. Not a disappointing song on the record. How can he make the Yamaha growl like a tethered beast as he draws out the sirens hypnotic call?
Stand outs from this sterling collection include “Ride”, “Stalker”, “Play”, “Shes a Tree”. Seriously, stop what you are doing and buy Rock Garden right now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ty Rocks this garden,
I cannot get enough of Ty’s playing on this CD. I think that I’ve played it for 12 hours straight on the first day that I had it. The melodies are brilliant and the way he constructs a song, from twang-grind to lyrics is just something in song-crafting you really cannot find these days. Effin excellent work lad!
