5.0 out of 5 stars Debut album from one of the best bands ever
Punk-chewed bubblegum rock, fronted by sex kitten Wendy James, proved a winning formula on Transvision Vamps debut release, Pop Art. Despite proclaiming “The rules are…there are no rules” in the liner notes, the set follows the time-honored rock/punk formula of guitars, attitude, and a healthy shot of sex appeal: Nick Christian Sayers guitar work providing the perfect complement to James’ anthemic lyrics. At their best with exuberant outings such as “I Want Your Love” and “Revolution Baby,” a nice melodic lull to the rollicking fun is provided by the well-honed ballad “Sister Moon.”
5.0 out of 5 stars Vastly underrated but excellent
This, despite never being quoted as Transvision Vamps best album (coming always second to the pop-punky Velveteen), actually has examples of a more sensual and rocking Transvision Vamp. From the opening chords of “Trash City” to the final moans of “Sex Kick”, this is one fine album indeed. Oh, and have fun trying to figure out just exactly what Wendy James is doing (or having done to her) in the breakdown of “Sex Kick”.
