Blind Soul Lottery is the intimidating introduction for Too Many Gods, an industrial hardcore quintet hailing from Detroit, and captures the seething hostility of a young group being held back by society. Deftly melding electronic beats with what otherwise would be a solid hardcore band, Too Many Gods instantly steps forward and seizes the listener by the throat with ferocious songs like “New Time” and “Reflect,” tracks that are hard to resist and as ravenous as a rabid dog. The subtleties of Blind Soul Lottery make it a compelling listen, as Too Many Gods infects their songs with uncharacteristic hardcore themes such as incorporating feminine vocals and digital sound effects to give each song a thicker sound. Admittedly, this at times results in songs sounding rather clustered, yet the positive effects outweigh the slight drawbacks encountered. The band falters when attempting rapcore styles, especially on “Mindless,” which strives to succeed, yet sadly fails. Although there are a few uneven moments that crop up near the beginning of the album, the band rises above these faults and wraps up with a plethora of outstanding songs. “Introvert” excels by taking a more melodic approach and is one of the groups more accessible offerings. The album closes with two incredible songs held apart by an intrepid instrumental. While musically both songs are solid on their own, the lyrical surface is burrowed into, and if you take the time to listen, this makes for an emotional, albeit tragic ending to an above-average industrial album. “The Letter Y” flirts with thoughts of suicide and “When the Smoke Clears” finishes with a moving ode to a friend who was lost that very way. With its soaring melodies and symphonic industrial scale, “When the Smoke Clears” is a massive explosion straight to ones heart and is reason enough to give Too Many Gods a chance.

===================================================

Too Many Gods take a leap up, out and away from their previous release and show the world what angry music is. The album consists of twelve tracks filled with nicely placed electronic noises, a few unexpected female vocal parts, and a pretty powerful message very loosely summed up in the phrase, “when the smoke clears you wake up to find you’ve wasted your time”. The riffs are truely innovative in a genre where most songs are built around
a solid riff. With a dynamic mixture of hardcore, industrial and metal, Too Many Gods possess a sound that is exciting and unique.

5.0 out of 5 starsMY NEW FAVOURITE CD ! ! !
This cd is fantastic! It has a wide range, going from agressive to super-agressive in under 1 second. My favourite track right now is “reflect”, which is just brilliantly layed out with heavy programming and guitars from Starr and pounding rythms by Frost. This CD just makes me want to jump out of my shoes and kick somebody in straight in the teeth!
The band is almost beyond tight, and after seeing them live… i know that they are just as tight live…
