Early pressings were released as a limited edition gatefold sleeve with an extra 12″ featuring four tracks recorded live at Hammersmith Odeon on November 27, 1981. According to the book “Phil Lynott: THE ROCKER”, written by Mark Putterford, Lynott insisted that it was released as a gatefold sleeve, but the record company didn’t agree because of the high costs. This almost made Lynott leave the band, but later he accepted the limited edition idea.
First cat number on the LP, second on the 12″.
Scott Gorhams last name is misspelled on the labels as “Goreham”.

————————————————————-

Thunder and Lightning is the twelfth and final studio album by Irish heavy-rock band Thin Lizzy, released in 1983. Guitarist John Sykes was hired to replace Snowy White after 1981s Renegade, and Sykes helped to provide a heavier sound and guitar tone than Thin Lizzy had used on previous albums. However, the bulk of the songwriting (except for “Cold Sweat”) was completed before he joined the band. Keyboard player Darren Wharton also offered a stronger musical influence to Thin Lizzys final studio album, co-writing many of the tracks including “Some Day She Is Going to Hit Back”, and the final single “The Sun Goes Down”. A farewell tour followed the albums release, followed by the live album Life. The groups founder, frontman and bass player Phil Lynott died in 1986 from drug-related causes.

The Sun Goes Down

The pumped-up aggression in Thin Lizzy’s 1983’s album Thunder And Lightning suggested a band fighting for survival. The album’s best track, The Sun Goes Down, told a different story. In this elegiac ballad, Lynott had written the band’s epitaph. It was their last single, a sad end to it all.
