Pure is a 1989 studio album by The Primitives, released as the follow-up to their début, Lovely. The line-up changed slightly over the course of the previous year: Steve Dullaghan was replaced on the bass guitar by Paul Sampson, who also shared the production duties with Wayne Morris.
The first single (in the United States) from Pure was “Sick of It,” which reached #24 in the UK.  Original video: http://www.mtv.co.uk/the-primitives/videos/way-behind-me#!/play/the-prim…
Pure also features “Way Behind Me” a single which was actually released shortly after the debut album (rising to #36 on the UK charts in 1988) and added to all future editions of Lovely.  ORIGINAL video: http://www.mtv.co.uk/the-primitives/videos/way-behind-me#!/play/the-prim…
“Secrets” was also released as a single; however it stalled just inside the Top 50 (#49 UK).
“I’ll Be Your Mirror” is a cover of a Velvet Underground song from 1967.

Focusing on catchy hooks, jangly guitars, and Tracys sweet, melodic voice, the band creates solid pop songs, such as “Sick of It” and “Dizzy Heights.” But its the songs where the band experiments and moves away from its traditional sound that stand out. On “Shine,” “All the Way Down,” and “I Almost Touched You,” guitarist P.J. Court takes over lead vocals, and the band explores a more psychedelic-influenced sound that wouldn’t seem out of place on a Stone Roses album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure by name,
So much 80s middle of the road pop was appalling, even with a 20 or 30 year distance and a dose of nostalgia. Yet at the end of the decade the Primitives arrived to try and redeem it. This is their second album and their best in my opinion. It is just pure unadulterated pop. It has a naive non contrived innocence to it with some great up beat rhythms and tunes, a sweet voice and jangley guitar.

5.0 out of 5 stars great indie pop album!
Pure is a joy to listen to from start to finish. This album is perfect indie pop, from the beautiful ‘outside’ and summer rain’. and ‘keep me in mind’ (which has the greatest middle eight in rock n roll history) to the Velvet Underground cover ‘Ill be your mirror’ and the epic closer ‘I almost touched you’. This is a great album!
for fans of; The Velvet Underground, Jesus and Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart… if you love indie pop/c86/twee pop/shoegazing etc. you need this album!
