Get it and get sick !

THE FIRST ENGLISH LANGUAGE guide to the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal is long overdue, but its been worth the wait for a guide as informed as Malc Macmillan. The books 800 pages reveal astounding minutiae via potted histories and discographies of Iron Maiden at one extreme, and obscurities like Smokin Roadie at the other. Lionheart, Vardis, Fist, Mendes Prey, all 533 bands from 1979-86, some are treated with reverence, others with the sarcasm they deserve. This book is a must have purchase for devotees.

At last…The first comprehensive, English-language guide to the revered New Wave of Heavy Metal phenomenon, revealing the true extent and significance of a musical force which shook a small nation two decades ago, paving the way for a global heavy metal revolution in later years. Discover how, where, and why it all started, and why so few of those aspiring hopefuls became household names while countless small-town wannabes simply disappeared into oblivion. Marvel at over 500 eventful stories which unfold in lurid detail. The individual entries range from the genre-busting successes (Iron Maiden and Def Leppard) to such esoteric acts as Stormqueen and Masterstroke. In each case, informative discographies provide an invaluable, easy-to-use guide for collectors. Fully illustrated throughout, with unpublished photographs, sleeve reproductions and concert material of the period, and featuring contributions from many of the key musician themselves. This is a fascinating and absorbing read for enlightened aficionados and curious newcomers alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars NWOBHM explained at last.
This is a book that has been on my shopping list for a while and having finally got around to buying it I can say it was worth every penny. Malc Macmillan has written his much-needed encyclopaedic in a style that is informative, cheerfully opinionated and frequently amusing. A well as the usual suspects it also digs deep into metal history and gives the likes of Hell, Jameson Raid and Mythra their due.

5.0 out of 5 stars Almost TOO much info!!!!!
I was a fan of nwobhm since around 1981 when I first heard Iron maiden at 12 years old, from that point on, I had always looked for new and obscure (or so I thought) bands from the genre. Bands like Chateaux, Tank, Tygers of Pan Tang, Satan, Demon, etc. I thought I had heard of almost every band in the genre, but man was I wrong. I both love and hate this book. It contains SO much info and so many bands I’ve never even heard of, that its awesome!!! I hate it because now I want to hear all these bands but do not have the cash to find all these rare gems! If you are a fan of nwobhm, this is a no brainer, for like $35 its well worth it. I’ve seen this book go for many times this price in the past, I guess more have been found or something, and now that the price is so low (its been on my wish list a few years) and copies have become available somehow, I had to get it. You should to, you will not be sorry!
