The Eric GALES BAND: S/T
Absolutely brilliant guitar player a la Hendrix etc. Killer! This album was released on a multinational label (Electra), which unfortunately gave priority to other bands instead. This album deserved a much better promotion as all 10 songs are brilliant! If you like bands like King’s X, Kenny Wayne Sheppard, Craig Erickson, Jimmy Hendrix, get this. Ultra-heavy blues heaven!

5.0 out of 5 stars Where have I been!,
This CD has been in my collection for years. When I put it on I was busy doing things in and around the house. At the fourth song I was riveted to my chair thinking that I was listening to Jimi Hendrix again. Awesome, is the only word I can use to describe it. I’m ordering the second CD now!

5.0 out of 5 stars Still a great CD
I bought this CD in 1991 at an Eric Gales concert (signed!) when I was impressed by this young talent (he opened for Stu Hamm). I recently listened to it again and it’s as great as it ever was. Some of the other CDs I bought at the same time haven’t aged as well, but this CD still rocks. Talent is talent in any era.
I expected him to become a superstar, and while he hasn’t received the fame that he should, this CD belongs on the shelves of anyone who likes great guitar rock.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent blues-rock – SRV would be proud,
Although clearly influenced by Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Gales wasn’t afraid to rock very hard when recording this album. The guitar tone is amazing. Awesome rhythm section with one of the best snare sounds in the business. Tasty.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Sadly Overlooked Classic…,
I recently heard “”Sign of the Storm”” on a hard rock station – it was during a segment on black rock artists. The deejay described Eric Gales as a “”kick-[butt] guitar player””. Apt words, indeed. It’s still hard to believe how young he was when he recorded this album – I remember being blown away by the video and his subsequent appearances on The Arsenio Hall Show. Arsenio was the only one to recognize how special this guy was. Carlos Santana also gave Eric Gales props during interviews. The whole album kicks [butt], though my favorite cuts are “”Resurrection””, “”Sign of the Storm”” and “”World for Ransom””. It’s almost like a hybrid of rock and gospel. I went to see Eric Gales in April of 2001 in New York City. The club was half full, but the audience was mixed – there were even some German tourists who came just to hear him wail. It was an unforgettable (and very loud) experience. We actually made him come back and do a few Hendrix songs – he was smoking so much on the guitar that night, I was waiting for his fingers to catch fire…
All in all, a great album!

5.0 out of 5 stars An Underrated Classic.,
At the time of it’s release, very few people were into this group and it’s blistering attack on the blues/heavy rock, especially Black Listeners who were all about hip-hop and soul. But me, being the visionary that I am, was utterly impressed, and still am, by this stunning debut. Opening with the rip-roaring “”Resurrection”” and not letting up for the next 40 minutes or so, the sheer verve and passion that these young cats play with will leave your mouth wide open and your ears ringing for days! “”Sign Of The Storm””(remember when they performed this jam on “”Arsenio””?) is probably my favorite track and sports the best hook on the LP. Special Kudos go to drummer Hubert Crawford for his rock solid backing and shots of manic flailing throughout, which push every song to the limit. A great debut. Jimi would be proud!

5.0 out of 5 stars Rocking blues that will take the doors of your Chevy.,
This album puts me in a state of euphoria. It has been a long time since an album has excited me so much.Comparing guitar players,in my opinion,is a waste of time. Each one exuding their own personal statement. However,if you are looking for something to shake the dust off your speakers, look no further. This album flames with life & excitement!Get a copy A.S.A.P.

5.0 out of 5 stars Electrifying guitar work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!,
Eric Gales deserves to be written up like Jimi Hendrix, Van Halen, Eric Clapton etc. He is right up there with them with his awesome guitar playing. The song “”sign of the storm”” is one of the best rock tunes I’ve heard and it should be the official song of the coming Millenium. More fans should pick up this bands cds and see what they are missing.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best unknown band around!!,
It’s a shame, here is one of the most talented young guitar players around, and no one knows of him. This is one of the rare records in which every song rocks! Everything from Eric’ s guitar work to the vocals and the lyrics are top notch! Get this cd!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great,
This album has a long story to it that I’m not going to bore anyone with but it’s been a favorite through out the family since about a year after it was released. It was loaned out and never returned! And his latest Live Album is awesome Too! Keep up the good work Eric!

5.0 out of 5 stars Revisiting an old favorite.,
In the years (decades) since this album, Eric Gales has become a household name in the pure Blues category. However, in this his first album, he delivers a powerful, rootsy rock-n-roll performance. He plays the guitar and sings with a fierceness mimicked years later by Kenny Wane Sheppard. Do not lose sight of the fact that he was only 16 when he wrote this album. This true music prodigy will make you want to hear more. As with me, you will be a fan for life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why did I overlook this gem back in ’91???,
OK, so I remember when this album came out. There was a lot of hype over the Eric Gales Band, and music magazines really gave this album a great rating. Too bad I was musically short sighted in ’91 and ignored it because it wasn’t a metal album! But, I suppose better late than never. Eric Gales just plain wails on guitar. The production has that late 80s-early 90s slickness to it with the big sounding choruses like in “”Resurrection””, but this does not sound dated by any means. This is simply a kick-you-know-what blues rock gem that sounds great and relevant 20 years later. I also had the privilege of picking up Eric Gales’ last two solo albums as well when I purchased this CD. Whether it’s Eric Gales’ solo stuff or the Eric Gales Band, you can’t go wrong here. You love blues rock? Then pick this gem up ASAP! You won’t regret it; I can promise you that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why didn’t they hit big?,
Probably the best Eric Gales Band album, although there aren’t many others. Eric is like Hendrix, Clapton, and SRV in one, with an 80s vibe, and only about 17 in this album. How amazing is that?

5.0 out of 5 stars Eric Gales a true master class guitarist/musician
If you have never heard of Eric Gales and you like musicians such as: Jimi Hendrix, Eric Johnson, & Johnny Winter, do your self a favor and pick up some Eric Gales and give it a listen to. Eric Gales is a true master class guitarist and plays his guitar with a furious conviction and knowledge of the art.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eric Gales Band,
This One Rocks…I remember the first time I heard this, and thought wow…Then, I saw em’ in concert and they just plain blew us away…the whole thing took us by surprise and created another kind of energy…positively in your ears musical sensation…there is Jimi Hendrix…that Yngwie guy and ERIC GALES…when he came out armed with his guitar and cape with top hat, I just knew something was about to change me…and it did…Thanx Eric 4 blowin’ my mind out of our heads that night and mine every time I listen to your music…This One Rocks!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Guitar lovers dream!,
Eric Gales the selling point a seventeen year old guitar whiz whose four older brothers all play! Eugene Gales plays bass and also wrote almost everything! Did not get alot of publicity because of the purgatory of what was hot and not, at the time when this album came out! No radio station could grab and sink there teeth in to this because grunge was booming and rock was just lingering in the back ground! Especially new rock acts except Guns and roses and very few others! As an album it really compares with all of the contemporary blues guitarist at the time! If you like Rocky blues with lots of guitar like Gary Moore, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Lance Lopez, Eric Clapton, and the inventor Jimi Hendrix then you’ll love This album!

5.0 out of 5 stars Killer Debut From Young Gales!,
4 1/2 Stars = Minor Masterpiece

A guitar prodigy at the age of 16, Memphis native Eric Gales hit the world of heavy, heavy, blues/rock running at full throttle with the self titled debut, “”The Eric Gales Band,”” in 1991.

Young Eric came on hard & heavy, funky & shredding, like the second coming of Hendrix via the teachings of Frank Marino & Joe Satriani. His licks extremely fast, & accomplished. His phrasing very mature & emotive. His tone supremely heavy. Eric Gales set the small world of guitar aficionados on fire with an album artistically that matched his technical skills, & I ate it up!

Unfortunately Eric was not ever able to follow up the extraordinary power of this album, losing his focus with the next two recordings, but Eric’s fourth, “”Crystal Vision,”” is a whole hearted attempt at trying to catch the energy, if not the focus of his debut.

All in all, “”The Eric Gales Band”” was another killer album from that very potent & creative time period of the late 80’s through the early 90’s, & also another long forgotten gem amongst many criminally forgotten albums & bands of those years.

5.0 out of 5 stars ERIC GALES ROCKS!!,
Yeah, you’ll probably hear that he sounds like Hendrix or Stevie Ray, so what!! Don’t let that stop you from enjoying disc. This guy rips! There are so many juicy riffs here and Eric gets a killer sound from his guitar. My favorites are CHANGES IN EMOTION, PIECE OF MY SOUL, FED UP WITH YOU, RESURRECTION and HIGH ANXIETY.

FED UP WITH YOU is some ballsy, high powered blues. The 3 man format works very well here. Crank this sucker up and let Eric Gales blow your socks off!! This is what power trio rock is supposed to be.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just Incredibly Great,
“”Set the needle down on”” ‘Changes In Emotion’ and when Gales breaks into a soaring solo, leaning on the wah-wah, (what Dr. Wynford Marsalis termed “”the trumpeting, the soloists announcement that they are on the scene, much as kings of old were greeted with trumpets””), then tears into an extended shredding solo, I GUARANTEE you will be laughing and crying tears of joy at the same time.”
