Oh, just buy it! This is a great listen over and over.

The Electric Mixes is one of a series of Cult CDs released sometime around 1989 to showcase the band’s extended singles mixes, remixes and B-sides etc. This CD features material from the band’s Electric period, as I’m sure you’d already guessed by the title.

Consisting of just 5 tracks it offers two extended single mixes, one regular single mix and a couple of B-sides taken from a BBC session recording; Love Removal Machine (Extended Version), Lil’ Devil (Standard Version), Wild Flower (Extended Rock Mix), King Contrary Man (BBC Session), Conquistador (BBC Session).

In their early days The Cult released some truly excellent extended versions of their singles, She Sells Sanctuary and Rain leap to mind, mixes which obviously were custom made for their purpose with quite some diligence.

The extended Love Removal Machine is equally great. The original song was stripped down to begin with, this remix only strips it further back.
In comparison the “Extended Rock Mix” of Wild Flower goes the other way,  creating something new and interesting which built upon the original track.
Lil’ Devil is Lil’ Devil, as the album and single. The remaining two tracks were taken from a live-in-the-studio BBC session recording, as a consequence sounding somewhat less overblown than their studio counterparts and make for a very interesting listen.
