Description
“Edie (Ciao Baby)” is a hard rock song by English band The Cult. It appeared on their fourth studio album Sonic Temple in 1989. It was also released as the second single from that album in 1989. A promotional video was also created. One of the group’s best known tracks, its single cover features the iconic image from the Ciao! Manhattan film poster.
The cover of the single features the iconic Ciao! Manhattan photo, used on the avant-garde movie’s poster. The Edie in the song is Edie Sedgwick, one of Andy Warhol’s actresses.
According to a 1989 interview with vocalist/lyricist Ian Astbury: “Edie was inspired when I was in New York City when we were recording the Electric album. I have several friends there involved in the fashion industry and one in particular turned me on to a movie called Ciao Manhattan!”
