Description

Tank had the firepower and the grit right from the start of their career. “Power of the hunter” is their sophomore release and it was actually released the same year as their amazing debut “Filth hounds from Hades”. Tank were often compared to Motorhead and that is a fairly safe comparison. I would say pre-“Ace of spades” Motorhead would be more accurate as Tank are as much rough as they are heavy. On this album I also some early KISS as well, I think its the raw sound and how each riff is punctuated that has me drawing that comparison. Tank also had strong groove going in the early days and thats apparent on tracks like “Walking barefoot over glass” and “Pure Hatred”. The production is rough and I am sure that their sound actually benefits from the slightly fuzzy sound as it gives them a certain edge. I think this is certainly one of their better albums because the attitude and the focus is still very much intact. Tank certainly made a huge contribution to the NWOBHM scene.

Power of the Hunter is the second album by heavy metal band Tank, released in 1982. The album was produced by Nigel Gray, better known for his work with The Police. “Crazy Horses” is a cover of the 1972 hit by The Osmonds.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hold on to your toupees!,
This is my favorite of the Tank albums. Every song slays it from start to finish.
Stand out tracks for me are Walking Barefoot Over Glass, Pure Hatred, Used Leather, Set Your Back On Fire, and Power Of The Hunter…. This is just brilliant stuff here, raw, full on, and in your face.
I like my Heavy Metal with a dose of punk riffing and attitude and this is a great example of that crossover from the 80s.

5.0 out of 5 stars Will not disappoint!,
How can you go wrong with tracks like ‘Crazy Horses’, set Your Back on Fire’, and ‘Pure Hatred’? Raw and heavy as hell!!! I highly recommend this album!!

Tank were one of the few NWOBHM bands that kind of crossed over into the “punk” category and seeing as Bassist – Singer Algy Ward was once a member of The Damned that kind of makes sense. They had a no nonsense approach and were pretty straight forward. Bringing that Motorhead beer drinking no bullshit attitude infused with a slight punk vibe. This was all denim and leather. None of that glammy, look at me makeup and clothes bullshit. And i love it! Still do! When Algy cries, “Whats Inside Me!? – Blood Guts & Beer!” I’m all in!
These guys are probably my fave early 80s metal for all of the reasons sited above…. NO BULLSHIT!
