Radio Free Albemuth was Stuart Hamms first solo record and features some mind-boggling bass work along with guitar on several tracks by Joe Satriani. Hamm provides a haunting bass cover of Beethovens “Moonlight Sonata”, as well as showing his range on “Dr. Gradus Ad Parnasum”.
A bit of trivia: some of the tracks (“Flow My Tears” and the title song, which features a blazing Allan Holdsworth) were inspired by the novels of Philip K. Dick. Radio Free Albemuth highlights include the humorous “Country Music (A Night In Hell) and “Sexually Active”.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you like BASS, BUY IT!!!!!!!,
If you play bass, listen to “Country Music” – the best example of what you can do with a 4-string with practice! Hamm is the MAN!!!

=============================================

5.0 out of 5 stars A startling début from one of the worlds top bassists.,
Stuart Hamm has a fine pedigree, working with many top names such as guitar legends Joe Satriani and Steve Vai.
This was his first solo album, and it is immediately obvious that hes not renowned for nothing!
‘Flow My Tears’ is possibly my personal favourite bassline of all time, combining a powerful hook with a mournful, delicate melody.
Moonlight Sonata is a cover of the famed Classical piece, transcribed for tap-bass, which works remarkably well, and accents the diversity found on this album, especially seeing as it follows on from ‘Country Music’, a hugely energetic, tongue-in-cheek crowd pleaser, which is even today an integral part of Hamms live routine. I challenge you to listen to this song without in some way physically moving to the rhythm!
If you’re a bassist, your collection is not complete without this album.
If you’re not a bassist, you’ll still not regret it!
