Biography
Shooting Star is a rock band from Kansas City. The band formed in the late 1970s. After gaining popularity in the Kansas City area and winning some local rock contests sponsored by FM Rock radio station (based in Kansas City) KY102, Shooting Star became the first American group to sign with Virgin Records.

They were formed in the late seventies. After quickly gaining enormous popularity in the Kansas City area, Shooting Star became the first American group to be signed with Virgin Records. They recorded their 1979 debut album (Shooting Star) in England with legendary producer Gus Dudgeon, best known for his work with Elton John and David Bowie. The band gained national exposure when a number of songs garnered moderate air-play on Album-oriented rock radio stations in the US.

Their initial line-up included Van McLain on guitar and vocals, Charles Waltz on violin, keyboards and vocals, Bill Guffey on keyboards, Gary West on guitar and vocals, Ron Verlin on bass, and Steve Thomas on drums.

Fantastic & Rare L.P on Virgin Records. CLASSIC Hard Rock. The best ever album from this charismatic Hard Rock band that was an institution throughout the Midwest of the USA. Their brand of symphonic rock melding into AOR is stuff of legend. Their albums have recently been re-released on CD (without bonus tracks) but you can buy the original vinyl versions cheaply from the Yperano mail order.

Shooting Star is the 1979 self-titled debut album by the group Shooting Star. Shooting Star was the first American musical act signed by then upstart label Virgin Records. Gus Dudgeon, mainly known for his work with Elton John, produced the album. “You Got What I Need”, “Bring It On”, “Tonight” and “Last Chance” all received regular play on AOR radio stations.

Through the years, Shooting Star endured their share of industry challenges and member changes. There were even times it seemed that the band could not continue forward. But founding member Van McClain was the constant rock that kept the fire burning. Sadly, Van McLain passed away in March of 2018.

this is by far one of the best albums ever! the first time I heard this i freaked out at the talent and uniqueness of this band. all bad asses! i became a huge fan and purchased all of their albums. one of my all time favorites and this album never gets old. great post!
