Shark Island is a great hard rock band from Los Angeles! This is their greatest album its not their first thou; they played LA an other cities and they where very popular and had a quite a fan base in LA!
Its too bad because they didn’t quite made it big(don’t know why??)
In the band are ;
Richard Black vocals-(also vocals in Contraband) its very well know that Axel Rose (GNR) saw him at one point live and stole his moves and his stage persona…Black is a great stage-man and has a cool hard rock voice!
Spencer Sercombe lead guitarist. He was working with BC Rich guitars and he helped to design a shape of BC Rich WARLOCK
He is great guitarist great musician!!!
Chris Heilmann a great bass rockin player…Greg Ellis great drummin’!!!
Paris Calling is the 1st single of the album and its one of band greatest songs (to me this songs kixx ass!!) It enters with slow blues intro with blues voice of Black and then kix of with chorus!!
Shake For Me And Somebody’s Falling just continue to greatness on Paris Calling!!!
Bad For Each Other Its a true raw hard rock power ballad!
Passion To Ashes…great drum intro even better Sercombes riff & solo!!
Shake for me Angeline we can try …stop the madness…Till I break!!!
Shark Island should have made it big they had it all.. great songs great looks great stage show! For me they keep spinning’ on my turntable……
5.0 out of 5 stars under rated band
Shark island were always a mystery, why weren’t they bigger?
This is a great 80s heavy rock band, which on the basis of this album should have been huge, there is much more going on than the usual 80s fodder.
Vocalist Richard Black has a rich texture to his voice which brings to mind a more versatile David Coverdale. While guitarist spencer can spice up any arrangement with his impressive licks. The Bass and drum is tight and effective leading to a impressive 4 piece that deserve more.
Opening with the classic “Paris calling” the band flex their musical muscle with intricate melodies and interesting arrangements building to a stomping chorus. The album leads on from this with high octane rock filled with passionate vocals and inspired fretwork. The anthemic “Spellbound” and the pulsing “Shake For Me” more than demonstrate the quality on display here.
They should have been huge and anyone who is interested in hard rock music will adore this masterpiece.
