| “Xura”, strange title… But who cares. The second album of the Lithuanian Gothic Metal-band continues, where their debut “Visionary Breed” had left off. There are still parallels to Paradise Lost, similar melodic guitar work, which is supplemented by a reminiscent of Moonspell type keyboard playing. Metallica influences and even Tom Warrior (Celtic Frost) type of vocal influences! There is a lot of variety in this CD, so if you like variety and bands that try to do different things, buy this CD.
RUINATION combine dark melodies with relaxed lead guitars on the one side and solid heaviness from the rhythm guitar and the drums on the other side, spiced up by very varied vocals. Highlights like the great “Don’t Take My Name In Vein” or “Souls On Fire” cannot pass unnoticed and justify a buy for sure, not least, because a great cover-version of the SISTERS OF MERCY-classic “Vision Thing” can be found, garnished with crunchy guitars. Great Sisters of Mercy cover version! So give a hopeful band from Lithuania a chance, because they really deserve it! |
