5 overtures recorded in the years 1972-75. Prepared after an extensive work of research and study of the original Rossini manuscripts.
The result is miles far from the versions Karajan recorded in 1970 with the Berliner Philharmoniker. Here the orchestra produces well-defined, light and highly transparent sound. Winds are prominent and clear.
An outstanding LP 47 minutes long.

Died: 1868-11-13 (Passy, Paris, France)
Gioachino Antonio Rossini was an Italian composer who gained fame for his 39 operas, although he also wrote many songs, some chamber music and piano pieces, and some sacred music.
He set new standards for both comic and serious opera before retiring from large-scale composition while still in his thirties, at the height of his popularity
London Symphony Orchestra

The LSO was set up by a group of players who left Henry Wood’s Queen’s Hall Orchestra because of a new rule requiring players to give the orchestra their exclusive services.
The LSO claims to be the world’s most recorded orchestra; it has made gramophone recordings since 1912 and has played on more than 200 soundtrack recordings for the cinema, of which the best known include the ‘Star Wars’ series. The LSO is consistently ranked as one of the world’s leading orchestras.
Since 1982, the LSO has been based in the Barbican Centre in the City of London.
Frequently mentioned together with London Symphony Chorus.
