Description

A great new double live CD from this classic British Progressive Rock band with first class recording quality. All the bands classic tracks are here(Northern Lights, Opening Out, Mother Russia, Ashes Are Burning, to name just a few!), together with excellent live versions of material from the recent Tuscany album. If you only buy one Renaissance album, this is the one to get – its virtually a greatest hits package. Annie Haslam is a goddess of voice, as usual (her soprano five octave range fits perfectly with the classical/orchestral rock). And the instrumental power stays sharp and fresh.

DISC 2 1. Mother Russia 2. Trip To The Fair 3. One Thousand Roses 4. I Think Of You 5. Ashes are Burning

If there was ever a reason to celebrate a new release, this new double live CD from Prog Rock legends Renaissance fits the bill. In The Land Of The Rising Sun captures this classically trained rock band during their Tuscany tour in the Far East a couple of years ago. Complete with music from over three decades of smash albums and singles.
Annie Haslams magical voice opens the disc with the seventies hit “Carpet Of The Sun.” The familiar lyric and interplay with guitarist/composer Michael Dunford kicks this album into high gear as their Japanese fans applaud in approval.

Most fans will tell you that the live gems from their most recent studio effort “Tuscany” are some of their finest works ever. We think you will agree.

Extensive productions like the 20 minute “Ashes Are Burning”, “Mother Russia” and “A Trip To The Fair” will recall the glory days of progressive rock radio and how all of these songs were mandatory listening in their day. These latest arrangements will transport the listener to a time when album radio had no problem playing masterpieces like these. Now, you can enjoy them once again in their full digital glory.

In The Land Of The Rising Sun wouldn’t be complete without the beautiful artwork by Renaissances own Annie Haslam.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still GREAT!,
I am a total long time fan of Renaissance. My adult son even still likes them since I played them when he was small! I keep them in my car, and listen when working on computer. There is just no group then or since to compare
to them. I saw them live twice when they came to USA many decades ago.

This recording is very good. There is good base and the instrumentals are
very good. The tempos are a little more mellow, slower, but Hey…Fleetwood Macs return concert was that way too.

And Annie is wonderful as always. (and she is MY age…mercy!)

I am so glad to have this 2CD set. It is different in some ways but still GREAT! Thanks so much to all of the members of this highly creative, innovative and musically gifted group!
Trip to the Fair is a strong cut and nicely arranged.
I Think of You is still powerful, and still beautifully poignant and simple. It still gives me goosebumps!
And Ashes Are Burning is still a great contemporary piece! This is just a total classic IMO. (my son plays the bass so we have always loved Ashes).
I love all the cuts, but these 3 are my faves! It is so hard to believe that this group has been around more than 30 YEARS! And still sound contemporary! True Genius!

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank God They’re Back,
I waited about 15 years for my favorite band to reunite. This is a great live recording of their new and old work. This may be the best version of Ashes are Burning yet. If you’re a Renaissance fan you’ll love it. If you never heard of them, give their classical meets rock sound a try. Annie can definitely still hit all the high notes. They’re as good as ever, which is awesome.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable – this band is still great!!,
After almost 30 years these guys still have not lost their sound. The voice, Annie Haslam, is as strong as ever. Man I could listen to her forever and never get tired of that incredible range of hers. She has, if possible, gotten better with age. Her voice seems more mature and finely tuned than when I first heard her back in the mid 70s.

If you are a Renaissance fan this is a must have. Even if you have every single one of their albums/CDs – get this one. You will not be sorry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Live Performance,
This is an excellent recording featuring Annie Haslam, Michael Dunford, and Terrence Sullivan from the late ’70s version of the band. The sound quality and performances are better than the King Biscuit Flower Hour and BBC Radio CDs. Its nice to hear live versions of old standards along with newer material from “Tuscany” and Annies solo albums.

5.0 out of 5 stars As close as most people can get to a live Renaissance performance
When Renaissnace reunited in 2001, it was the 1st time in almost 20 years that they performed together and live. 3 out of 5 original members appear here so I guess thats about average for a band coming off a 2 decade break. For whatever reason, they chose to appear in Japan and nowhere else and this 2 CD set is the document of that event.

The set contains songs both old and new and even slips in a solo Annie song (Moonlight Shadow). As always, the highlight is the finale “Ashes Are Burning” and this version does not disappoint. Veteran fans of the band will certainly enjoy this long awaited set.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rennaisance live in Japan,
Although most of the songs included in this album are from former albums the beauty and magnificence of the group is still unparalleled ,the new songs are good, for my taste the best arrangements are on the classics ashes are burning for example ,again excellent album ,to be listened at again and again .

5.0 out of 5 stars Renaissance is my favorite all time band, period.,
This review is from: In the Land of the Rising Sun (Audio CD)
It seems that one song(s) of theirs on different albums, tend to sound the same. But on this recording in Japan, they changed up the music, much to my delight. I love the original versions, but it was great to hear something unexpected, plus they had a couple songs I haven’t heard before. Annie Haslam has just one of the greatest voices, ever! I was lucky enough to see them at the Keswick Theatre in Philly, PA in 2011. Then when I found this CD, I also found a DVD of the concert in Philly that we were at. Wahoo! I didn’t know it was being recorded for DVD production. I hope you enjoy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Renaissance – “In The Land Of The Rising Sun”,
This review is from: In the Land of the Rising Sun (Audio CD)
The beautiful progressive rock band Renaissance in the presence of Annie Haslam with her beautiful vocals, Michael Dunford and other musicians record this CD in Japan with a nice repertoire and recording quality in 2001. The bands fans can not fail to have this CD. The lightness and softness of the songs shines on vocals impeccable Annie. Excellent and great value.
