“”Lovin’ You a Dirty Job”” is a single by the American heavy metal band Ratt. It was released as the first single from their 1990 album Detonator. The song was co-written by Ratt bassist Juan Croucier, guitarist Warren DeMartini, lead singer Stephen Pearcy and songwriter Desmond Child. The song is known for its anthemic chorus, and Pearcy raspy vocals. The UK 12″” included a remix of “”Lovin’ You…”” unreleased elsewhere….

Music video:
In the music video for the song, the cliffhanger ending from “”Shame Shame Shame”” is resolved. The band performs on what appears to be another planet where the dueling airships from the previous video crashed and landed. They seduce the rival stripper-manned airship with their hot looks, musical abilities, and slick moves. It is implied that they all receive sexual favors from the strippers afterwards as a reward.

Personnel:
Stephen Pearcy- vocals
Warren DeMartini- co-lead guitar
Robbin Crosby- co-lead guitar
Juan Croucier- bass guitar
Bobby Blotzer- drums

“Lovin’ You’s A Dirty Job” by Ratt sums up my three-decade relationship with this band. We’ve been together through the good, the bad and the ugly.

I personally don’t think the band gets enough credit for producing a number of solid pop-metal anthems. And, it really frustrates me when Ratt is labeled a one-hit wonder just because the band never duplicated the chart success of its breakthrough hit “Round and Round. True, Ratt’s record sales paled in comparison to peers like Def Leppard and Poison.

But I blame 80s radio—and especially MTV—for not showing the band enough love. Seems like a Ratt video would get that once-a-week play on “Headbangers Ball” and that was about it.
Things looked like they could change as the decade drew to a close, and the band hit the studio with “Lovin’ You’s A Dirty Job.” Released as the first single from their 1990 album ‘Detonator’, it was co-written by Desmond Child who helped revive Aerosmith’s career [“Dude (Looks Like A Lady)”] and was instrumental in Bon Jovi’s rise to mega-stardom [“You Give Love A Bad Name” and “Livin’ On A Prayer”]. Sadly, Child’s metal magic didn’t work for this underrated gem.

But, as they say, love never dies. So, long live Ratt.

I woke up in the mornin’, I’m still flat on my back
Couldn’t move a muscle like I had a heart attack
The night was wild and woolly
Didn’t think I’d make it through it
‘Cause lovin’ you’s a dirty job
And I’m the man to do it

Lovin’ you is a dirty job, lovin’ you is a dirty job

You put me through the ringer and hung me out to dry
You licked me off your fingers just like a piece of pie
You break my heart in pieces
But I’ve got the glue to glue it
Girl lovin’ you’s a dirty job
And I’m the man to do it

Lovin’ you is a dirty job, lovin’ you is a dirty job
Lovin you is a dirty job
Girl lovin’ you’s a dirty job and
I’m the man to do it

I’m gonna hold you till the end of time
I’m gonna love you ’cause it’s now or never
I’m gonna kiss you till I make you mine

Lovin’ you is a dirty job, lovin’ you is a dirty job

I’m gonna hold you till the end of time
I’m gonna love you ’cause it’s now or never
I’m gonna kiss you till I make you mine

Lovin’ you is a dirty job, lovin’ you is a dirty job
Lovin you is a dirty job
Girl your love is thicker than mud
And you’re trying to drag me through it now

Lovin’ you is a dirty job, lovin’ you is a dirty job
