Worth Another Look
Private Life was an AOR band featuring former members of Rod Stewart, Axis, and Badfinger with singer Kelly Breznik. Private Life’s music was very slick, keyboard-based AOR similar to late-80s Heart. The bands 1990 self-titled follow up to their 1989 album Shadows features 9 ready-for-radio songs, including a nice cover of Van Morrison’s “Domino.” It is an enjoyable album if you’re into this kind of music.
Despite catching the attention of Eddie Van Halen, who produced the album and took the band on tour with Van Halen, Private Life never really caught on. This ended up being the bands final release.
Private Life was very much a product of its time. You just don’t hear this kind of music anymore, which I suppose could be called progress. If you’re an AOR fan, an album like this will make you miss the good old days though.
Private Life had been out of print for a while, and wasn’t easy to track down.

“Touch Me” – Tia Carrere on the Wayne’s World movie:
…like a lite reincarnation of the first Vixen LP. A couple of good tunes and a cover of Van Morrison’s “Domino”. The album opens with a Saraya kind of song “Touch Me” then the second track “Domino” shows some hints of their first lighter sounding album, “Communication” has a bluesy feel and “Night All Night” is a straight R’n’R, “Nothing To Loose” is a nice ballad, “Give It Up is a cool song, “Holiday” is a real good ballad and the best track at least 4 me is the closing song “Cure For Love” which conserves the flavour of that catchy AOR sound. ‘Cure for love’ is even better and easily the highlight of the album. But to wait to the last 2 tracks of the album to put your best tracks is not such a good move.
