Description
20Ten is the thirty-fourth studio album by American recording artist Prince. It was released on July 10, 2010, by NPG Records as a free covermount with the Daily Mirror and Daily Record in the UK and Ireland, and Het Nieuwsblad and De Gentenaar in Belgium. It was also released on July 22, 2010, with Rolling Stone magazine in Germany, and Courrier International in France.
The album was produced, arranged, composed, and performed by Prince at Paisley Park Studios in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It is his thirty-third studio album released in the UK. 20Ten contains musical elements of funk, pop, rock, and soul music.[8] Some names of the tracks from the album were revealed as clues in Princes song “Cause and Effect” which was released to radio earlier in 2010.
Prince revealed the name of the album when receiving a lifetime achievement award at the 2010 BET Awards in June 2010. He stated to the Daily Mirror that he chose the title because, “I just think its a year that really matters. These are very trying times.” He considered the album a personal diary of the year. Prince made arrangements to release 20Ten exclusively as a free CD add-on to European newspapers on July 10, 2010, including the UKs Daily Mirror, Scotlands Daily Record, and Belgiums Het Nieuwsblad, and on July 22, 2010, in Frances Courrier International and the German edition of Rolling Stone.
Over 2.5 million copies were distributed by Trinity Mirror, the publisher of the Daily Mirror and Daily Record. Prince was featured in the publications, to which he granted his first interview in a British newspaper in over 10 years. The issue of the Mirror cost 65 pence; the album was not available as a digital download or in retail stores. Prince stated to the Mirror that this method of releasing the album was “the best way to go… no charts, no internet piracy and no stress,” although the album is easily available for illegal download via peer-to-peer networks. The publisher released that sales of the Daily Mirror increased by 334,000, and sales of The Daily Record increased by 45,000 copies on the day it included the album.
Prince released his album Planet Earth in July 2007 under a similar arrangement with the British newspaper The Mail on Sunday. No plans for a U.S. release have even been announced.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Prince Charming and Talented!,
The album begins with `Compassion’ an energetic song with soulful musings, creative harmonies and thoughtful lyrics.
The 2nd song `Beginning Endlessly’ is a throwback to the eighties, with funk and fat drum sounds including retro synth arrangements that are used for a flashback effect to the great club days of new wave dance and has some great chord changes!
The 3rd song `Future Soul Song’ is a sultry, beautiful ballad; a traditional Prince gem.
The 4th song `Sticky Like Glue’ immediately evokes the `Diamond & Pearls’ album. Its a smooth, funky number in the tradition of Stevie Wonder and of course in Princes musical trademark with creative chord changes and fantastic guitar riffs!
The 5th song `Act Of God’ is a real funk number with thought-provoking lyrics, great harmonies and another one in the tradition of his `Diamond & Pearls’ days.
The 6th song drives immediately into a steady funk called `L’avaux’. He uses the eighties Prince synth attacks to smooth effect and has an outstanding rhythm section driving it all the way!
In the 7th song Prince slows down the pace with `Walk In Sand’, a sweet ballad with Princes sprinkle of harmonic magic and melodic beauty. A beautiful arrangement that is laid-back and timeless, also a sweet reminder of his album `Around The World In A Day’.
Then on the 8th song Prince brings us to the depths of a real slow soul ballad that almost builds to gospel longing; as beautiful as anything hes ever written in this style.
On the 9th song `Everybody Loves Me’ he returns to the eighties mania; reminiscent of his album `1999′, a real fun treat where Prince plays some ragtime riffs on the piano.
The 10th song is a hidden number that only starts after a couple of minutes of silence. Its a hip-hop style, like in his most recent albums and especially those with NPG; very funky!!

5.0 out of 5 stars unexpectedly brilliant,
Who could have thought prince still had the ability or indeed the inclination to make an album in the style of his early 80s ‘Minneapolis funk’ albums, dirty mind, controversy and 1999. This album has some moments of true inspiration, which nearly rival some of his very best songs from his early days. Its stripped down to programmed drums, keyboards, a little guitar, and princes vocals, eschewing much of the indulgence he has shown in recent years with horn sections etc. Its very surprising that a man in his 50s, seemingly past his best, has put out such a fresh sounding, funky and compulsive album. He has somehow managed to make the eighties style of this album seem new and exciting. Dont listen to the negative reviews. If you are a true prince fanm you will find something to really enjoy on this CD

5.0 out of 5 stars Now hes really in form,
The best Prince album in 15-20 years. There is something a little retro about “2010” as some of the backing does have the feel of “dirty mind” or “controversy”. All the ballads are good but “future soul song” & “walk in sand” which has more of a beat, stand-out amongst the four. The six dance/funk tracks are back to form with “sticky like glue” which reminded me of the single “f.u.n.k”,”act of god” & “lavao%” all standout. Out of the latest 3 albums this is by a country mile the best, and the best since “diamonds & pearls”, “f.u.n.k” is not on the album which i was a little disappointed about but its still very very good.

5.0 out of 5 stars if only it were the 80s this album would be huge
yes we have all heard Sign o the times and Purple Rain the classic 80s Prince we all love and adore-…but you know what Prince will never make an exceptional album like those again. We need to get over it and just enjoy what he brings to the table right now. You are asking the impossible…its almost like yourself asking to lose your virginity again…it just aint going to happen…you just have to enjoy the experiences that follow. I am a Prince fan from a young age so i know what im talking about…this album is certainly a lot better than Graffiti Bridge and the dross that was the Diamond and Pearls album. Have you actually given this album a chance? Over the last 3 albums he certainly has got back on form ..Planet Earth had its moments – MPL Sound and Lotus Flower was 75% complete and this new album is dead on it…tracks Like “Lavaux” and “Beginning Endlessly” are fine fine tunes and the “Sea of Everything” is everything that Prince offers in a ballad just as good as Adore from Sign o the times…a bold statement i know…and you know what i love about this album the most is that my 3 year old daughter is now a Prince fan because of the upbeat bubblegum pop that is “Everybody Loves me”…..go on give it another try at least 3 listens will suffice
