Compilation album by Pink Floyd
Released: 14 May 1971
Recorded: 1967-1969
Genre: Psychedelic rock, progressive rock
Length: 49:38
Label: Starline [Starline 2nd Press]
Producer: Pink Floyd, Norman Smith, Joe Boyd

The release of Relics was sparked by the success of Atom Heart Mother which peaked at #1 on the British charts. Relics was most noted for its inclusion of Syd Barrett-era hit singles, “Arnold Layne” and “See Emily Play”, as well as B-sides to three other singles. The Relics versions of “Paintbox”, “Julia Dream” and “Careful with That Axe, Eugene” are mixed in stereo. The album also includes a previously unreleased studio recording of a Roger Waters composition, “Biding My Time”, which had otherwise only been heard by live audiences as part of “The Man and the Journey” concert sequence.

Cover:  The album cover was designed by drummer Nick Mason, and according to him is the only concrete product of his years at architecture school in the Regent Street Polytechnic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Syd Barrett, RIP,
Syd Barrett will be greatly missed. His whimsical song writing style was unique and greatly influenced many famous musicians like David Bowie. This LP is an essential purchase for those wishing a taste of genius.

5.0 out of 5 stars Its Psychedelic Man,
This album is the original 1971 Starline vinyl. I was captivated, and still am, by Pink Floyd’s music, and this album was my introduction to the band. My favorites on the album are: Julia Dream and Cirrus Minor (pop on the headphones and just sink into these two songs). Careful With That Axe, Eugene and biding my time are also excellent (check out the live, Careful With That Axe, Eugene on Ummagumma. You can listen to the music if you go to the ‘blue cover’ Relics in the Pink Floyd section.
You can’t compare Relics to albums like to Dark Side Of The Moon, or The Wall, but its just wonderful late 60s Floyd and remains on my list of favorites.

5.0 out of 5 stars better than a washed-up Jackson,
I’m no real fan of Pink Floyd, but at least they didn’t have to flash their beef curtains to sell records, unlike a certain has-been named Damita Jo.
