Pica Fierce is an impressive up-and-coming four-piece European metal that treats us to a carefully blended recipe of a Gothenburg-centered sound that incorporates bits of prog-metal, thrash, power, and even a few hints of melodic black. Pica Fierce manages not to sound like a half-baked concoction of their influences; rather they take early melodic Swedish metal and run with it. Good transitions and song structures definitely work in their favor, and will make them an even more enjoyable listen if/when a full-length comes out. The sound quality is excellent for an independent band. Although the band isn’t playing a ground-breaking form of music, they have a sound that sets them apart slightly. Since many copies of A Spiral of Violence this release has become hard to find.

– We are just as passionate about music, play the same type of metal as intensely as before. But we have taken it more easy lately. Laid a little dormant. Now we are all back in Kristiansund, and then it was time to come out with our first proper record, say Kjetil Dyrnes and Eirik Roksvåg.
They are the ones providing the information this time. Haltbakk and Kjønnø have been sent to Ørebro in Sweden where mixing and mastering takes place on the record.
– The record costs us close to NOK 100,000, and NOK 42,000 of that is spent on the trip to Ørebro. We do that because we are guaranteed to get a professional sound image. These are the best in the business.
Lots of attention
The four in Pica Fierce have been together since 1999. They write the music themselves. They received a lot of attention in connection with the metal opera “Faust” two and a half years ago, where they created a terrific production together with the Opera in Kristiansund.
– “Faust” is probably not typical of what we do. But once we started, it was a shame that more didn’t come of it. Everyone thought this was tough.
In the last two years, the guys have been scattered. But they have maintained contact. In between, they have made recordings: drums in Trondheim, guitar in Volda and taping of solos and vocals in Kristiansund.
– The environment is not big enough here. We probably have to go to the bigger cities. And preferably abroad.
