This is amazing Jazzy/Funky Grindcore. One Step Beyond might be the best and most original band ever hailing from Australia! This band mixes many different styles that improve the intelligent extreme Metal delivered by this excellent three-piece. In fact, except for some fast passages and the vocal aspect, the band ain’t too extreme Metal. It’s definitely Heavy, but includes very different stuff from Rock to Reggae, Punk to Funk, Jazz to Ska or even some Industrial elements. Apart from those influences, the musicianship is utterly amazing: absolutely perfect and variegated. Moreover, the excellent drumming never gives the game away, never shows that we’re actually dealing with programming! The guy is a genius! As for the vocals: of course, the usual duality grunts/screams is there but you can feel there’s some fun in it. The screamy voice is very reminiscent of early Sadus and Mass Psychosis while the grunted voice is a great specimen of the Death Metal type. This release is huge!
