Description
Well put-together and a treat for your ears
This album is always worth a listen. It’s dark, enlightening, sad, and uplifting all at once. Let’s hope for a sequel.
Unbelievably Great!
Marty Willson-Piper, guitarist/singer/songwriter extraordinaire of the great Aussie band ‘The Church’, and Dare Mason have collaborated on what I believe to be one of the best alternative releases in a long time. The level of songwriting and craftsmanship on this CD is beyond belief! You really must hear this stunning work of art to believe it. The variety and depth of this music reflects a maturity and approach to songwriting that is lacking in most music nowadays. This CD is songcraft at its absolute BEST!
This is Marty and his collaborator Dare Mason at the peak of their creative powers – add to this fact, that the Church’s new cd is about to be released in the USA soon and it shows that there is plenty of wonderful new music on the horizon. Noctorum is staggering – and deserves to be heard widely! This CD is not only diverse, but perfectly balanced. It’s very hard to put it on and not play the whole thing from start to finish and feel “”renewed”” afterwards. A very rich and rewarding listen each time.

Dare and Marty grew up together on the Wirral listening to prog, krautrock, spacerock, new wave, punk, artrock, funk, classic 60s pop singles, glamrock and heavy rock, probably the reason for their diverse and eclectic sound. Moving to Australia in the 80s Marty joined the influential Australian band The Church and, for a while, All About Eve while Dare concentrated on becoming an engineer and producer, founding the VIP Lounge studio in Penzance, Cornwall. They formed Noctorum in 2002, releasing their first album, Sparks Lane, on Heyday Records, an independent label in the US.
