Description

Cool, contagious and incendiary, Toronto pipe-rock band Mudmen is as fun as it is fierce, powerful as it is party-full. On its self-titled debut, the songs make it appear that having two bagpipes in a rock band is as natural as having bass, guitar and drums. From the boisterous reinforcement of “In My Head” with its melodic pipes to the single, “5 O’clock,” a pub-pop song infused with Scottish war calls, the Toronto sextet have forged a sound thats unique and contemporary.

Zoy Nicoles is the MUDMEN frontman and lead singer. At the core of this sound are burly bagpiping brothers Rob and Sandy Campbell whose stature and strength are as mesmerizing as their playing skills. On the album, the pair bends, twists and manipulates the traditional instrument beyond its standard range. Just note the spaghetti-western Celtic rumbling of the rallying rocker “Underdog,” the plaintive pipes on the ballad “Lost” and subtle creepiness of “Coma.” Then theres the full-out Celtic pump of “Wasting Time,” the anthemic “Winners,” punk attitude of Captain Tractors “Drink & Fight” and the instrumental “Masons Apron” — all fuel for one helluva rockin’ ceilidh. “We wanted it to be tough,” says Rob. “Right from the beginning, no love songs. We wanted to come out with rockin’ high intensity music that would work up a crowd.”

Mudmen are a Canadian rock band that formed in Toronto, Ontario in 2000. Initially comprising vocalist Zoy Nicoles, guitarist Lonny Knapp, bassist Tommy Skilton, drummer Ryan McCaffrey and bagpipe-playing brothers Robby and Sandy Campbell.

The band are best known for their singles “5 O’Clock”, “Saturday”, and “Drink and Fight”

5.0 out of 5 stars Bagpipe rock music that goes way beyond its gimmick,
So the Mudmen play with bagpipes. That much we know. The point is that the bagpipes wouldn’t mean a thing if the music wasn’t good. But that’s what makes the Mudmen so great. Even without the bagpipes, this would be a damn solid rock record. The Mudmen have great scope, able to allow songs like the supercharged “Drink & Fight” to share album space with the ballad “Lost,” and both songs represent their styles aptly. The addition of bagpipes to the music is not only inventive, but also extremely resourceful, not simply a gimmick. Definitely the best new band out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW,
I’m more of a punk music fan, but when I heard of these guys, I checked them out, and was shocked by the unique sound of rock they had, truly one of a kind. Definitely worth buying.

5.0 out of 5 stars awesome,
there my friends, haha a new weird keltic rock sound:D

5.0 out of 5 stars mudmen rule!,
This is one of (if not THE) best cds in my collection. Mudmen are ingenious – combining rockin’ good music with bagpipe melodies. You’re probably thinking “bagpipes?! no way” but just give it a listen. you’ll be pleasantly surprised. I guarantee it.

This CD was bought for one song, Lost. But I stumbled upon a terrific album! This is the only site that sells this CD at this price and the service was so helpful and fast! Thank you!

Great CD, Great Service!!
The music is terrific, and especially check out #8 (Lost). Couldn’t find the CD anywhere else, so I’m glad I stumbled onto this terrific site.

Alt rock with a twist – bagpipes!
I bought the cd for the song LOST which I heard on a commercial for a TV show. Great song. The coda at the end is perfect. Found several other good songs on the CD as well, though nothing quite as good as LOST. 5 O’clock was rockin’, and Drink & Fight was the most fun. And, while I am not a big fan of bagpipes, they sound awesome on this CD. Good job!

Rock with bagpipes!
This is what I ve been paying too: rock with bagpipes as it should be! Very good!
