Snake Bite Love is the fourteenth album by the British band Motörhead. It was released on March 10, 1998 and was distributed by BMG. This album features the three piece line up of Lemmy, Mikkey Dee and Phil Campbell.

Lemmy recalls that the making of Snake Bite Love was quite normal for the band: Six weeks before we recorded it, we didn’t even even have one song. But when it came time, we put it together very quickly. Unfortunately, I was sick for some of the rehearsals, and when you leave two guys together who aren’t singers, you end up with some weird arrangements.
He points particularly to “Desperate for You” and “Night Side” in this respect and explains how the title track started as a completely different song Dee recorded the drums tracks against a totally different set of chords, then it went back to Sweden where Campbell stated he was sick of the song and didn’t like it, Lemmy agreed and Campbell came up with a new riff and changed the whole thing. Lemmy admits that the album is a prime example of him writing the words at the last minute, and adds “you know, lazy son of a bitch one more time, right?”. Campbell is jokingly credited in the albums liner notes as an unpronounceable glyph (“The Artist Frequently Seen at the Liquor Store”), mocking Prince.
Reviewers have noted the album shows the less heavier side of Motörhead as there are “one or two too many slower tracks, but its still heavy for the most part” and having a mixture of musical ideas, ranging from the true metal of “Dogs of War” and “Assassin” to rock and roll influenced songs like the “Snake Bite Love” “Don’t Lie to Me”.”Love for Sale” is a “grooving and flowing romp”, “Joy of Labour” having “plenty of nasty slow riffs, and “Night Side” as a traditional fast track which will please ‘old school’ fans.

This album was well done. The intro to the first song was great, the second song blew me away, and “dead and gone” may be one of the best songs Motorhead ever wrote. Songs on this album vary in their sound. Great rocking album.

Take The Blame This one starts on a fast double-bass riff from Dee, who is shortly afterwards joined by the other musicians. Musically, this is vintage Motorhead, except slightly faster than usual; lyrically, we see Lemmy trying to put a political spin on his lyrics, and he doesn’t fare too badly. Plus, there is an insanely catchy chorus to top it all off. A definite album standout.

Desperate For You   Oooh yeah! A ripping, roaring, take-no-prisoners wonder of a track, and perhaps the most typically Motorhead in the entire album. It is all here  fast drums, crunching guitars, raspy vocals, love/sex lyrics, a monster of a chorus and YES! FINALLY! A shredding rock n roll solo from Phil Campbell.   Sing it with me:  “that’s why I’m a desperado/Desperate for you”!  Marvellous.

Snake Bite Love  The most typically Motorheadian of all the songs on this album, this develops at a quick pace, with shredding riffs from Phil Campbell and dynamic beats from the awesome Mikkey Dee. The lyrics revolve around Lemmy’s love of snakes :D. It is basically a fun loving song, and very enjoyable to listen to.

One Hell of an album well worth having Better off Dead is one great fucking track.
