Mnemic is a Danish modern metal band, formed in Aalborg, Denmark in 1998. In the beginning their music was described as a fusion between metalcore, nu metal, industrial metal and groove metal, with additional elements of melodic death metal, to form a style the band themselves have described as “Future Fusion Metal”.

  2. “Liquid”
    Released: 6 December 2003

Promising slice of industrial metal, This is a mind-blowing album right from the opening of the crushing “Liquid” through to the spacey end of “Zero gravity”. The Album is packs with jagged death metal riffs, spooky melodies, and soaring choruses. There is influence from all over the place on this album ,Fear Factory, Messuggah, but with they keep a unique sound. The guitar work can be unimaginative at times, and there are unfortunately no solos; but the tight weird timings more than make up for it. There are some very moshable riffs , like on “ghost” and “the naked and the dead” .The drumming is amazingly precise, and the vocalist sounds like he’s angry enough to punch though a wall. It’s really easy to get these songs stuck in your head. If you like Fear Factory , Strapping Young Lad or Messuggah is recommend you buy this. Even if you don’t like them… Buy this!!!

Swedish Industrial Metal at its finest. Having seen the video for the single “Ghost”, I was instantly drawn to this band and their sound. So I bought the CD on a whim hoping the rest of it lived up to the standards set by the single. And I certainly wasn’t disappointed. The best way to describe them is like a cross between Fear Factory, Meshuggah and In Flames. On first hearing them I found their use of odd measures and time signatures off-putting, but it soon becomes fluid and natural. The musicianship is generally pretty spot on all round. The guitar work is a little simplistic at times, and don’t expect to find any solos lurking in there. However, this is made up for in that their synth section usually compliments the grinding guttural riffs with some spacey, haunting melody. The vocals are executed nicely, with the screaming parts leaning more towards that high shriek often found in Swedish Metal. The drumming is simply amazing – every bit as technical as Tool’s Danny Carey, and every bit as fast (but infinitely more solid) than Slipknot’s Joey Jordison. Standout tracks for me would be Ghost, The Naked And The Dead, and my absolute favourite – Mechanical Spin Phenomena, which combines pulsing rolling rythmns with a melodic and euphoric chorus. Overall, awesome stuff. Everything Fear Factory could have been had they stuck together a little longer and evolved. Some of the tracks can start to sound a little samey, and there are brief portions in a few songs where things get a little muddy, but it’s nothing worth docking a star for. This is a hugely enjoyable album which will appeal to metal and non metal fans alike. Extras include a bonus remix track of Blood Stained, as well as the music video for Ghost.

Like Meshuggah? You’ll love Mnemic!, 10 Oct 2003 By Louisa Targell “R3bb” (Surrey, UK) This review is from: Mechanical Spin Phenomena (Audio CD) Combine the crushing riffs and polyrhythms of Meshuggah and melodies of Fear Factory, and you get Mnemic. I’ve known of this band for quite a while now, and was eagerly awaiting the release of this album. The only criticism I could have of this album is that it could be longer, but then, Chaosphere is only 8 tracks, and that’s an incredible album too! Best track on the album? Probably Db’xx’d.
