their stab at some of R&B’s classier, yet almost forgettable, tunes. The five-piece is as rowdy as ever and their own punk rock polish is undeniably infectious. What made Blow in the Wind so great is exactly what makes Take a Break even cooler. It’s straightforward rock & roll without the swagger — tomfoolery without being lame — and Me First and the Gimme Gimmes are clever in giving new life to some of these tracks. Whereas Lionel Richie‘s “Hello” and Prince‘s “Nothing Compares 2 U” banked success with their heavy-hearted tones, the Gimme Gimmes spike that mood for a punchy, feel-good time. A more electric, rough-edged alternative of Seal‘s “Crazy” is equally fashionable and slick to the original version. Add a bit of quick wit and pinch-hitting percussion, and the energy of Take a Break is more than enough to impress the new millennium punk kids. If not, the band’s pouncing ukelele dance of R. Kelly‘s “I Believe I Can Fly” will do it. Me First and the Gimme Gimmes do rock & roll the right way because they don’t try too hard. Take a Break once again showcases why they rock in the first place.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magnificent covers, a vast improvement on the originals,
For anyone who hasn’t already guessed by looking at the song titles, the gimme gimmes are a cover band. It is very difficult to compare them to any other band but if you are a fan of punk you should consider this CD very seriously.
This is the gimme gimmes fourth full length album and is quite possibly the best so far, mainly because of a better choice of songs to cover. As with all of their albums it is quite short, lasting just over 32 minutes but it is well worth the money.
This is the first gimme gimmes album where I have not been able to choose a lone favourite, showing the brilliant array of songs on offer, however the best few songs are probably “end of the road” , “crazy” and R.Kellys “I believe I can fly” although this is just my opinion.
I cannot emphasise just how good this album is and it has further established my love of punk music and the gimme gimmes.
If you own and like any of the gimme gimmes albums then you must buy this album you will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best gimmes so far!!!,
Being a big fan of the other Gimmes albums i was really looking forward to this new album. And i have to say it is one of the best cover albums in the world. With great versions of Hello, and i believe i can fly it makes for great listening!! This time round it is RnB and they do a great job of showing that white boys can get down! The music and vocals are top class and show that the Gimme Gimmes are really talented chaps! With a few surprise songs thrown in it is a rollercoaster of punk RnB. Some of the best song are Hello (lionel Richie) and Crazy (seal). go out and get it you’ll love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars the best yet,
This album gives the words “cover songs” a new meaning. This album is not only an amazing tribute to original artists and classic songs that we all know but is also a credit to Me First and their record label. This catchy punk like upbeats and the faultless sing along style is totally worth a buy. If you like punk then this is a must, buy it today.

5.0 out of 5 stars New meaning to the word “cover”!!!,
This album is just brilliant! Being a big fan of Me First for a long time I have long awaited this new release and I wasn’t disappointed! It is great! There are some ace covers to songs such as “I believe I can fly” and “End of the Road”. My personal favourite is the cover of “nothing compares”.
If you like punk or want a good introduction to it then this album is a must have. And any fans of Me First should not hesitate to get this album as in my opinion, it is their best!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Take a Break and listen to this,
I’m not gonna write a long pretentious review of this album, I’m just gonna say that this is excellent. The cover of ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ is superb.
My only question about it is “Is the intro to ‘Isn’t she lovely’ meant to sound like Iron Maidens ‘Running Free’?”
If you haven’t heard the band before, listen to some now, you might like it. If you have heard them before, buy this album, you’ll love it
