5.0 out of 5 stars Mark King – One Man – One hell of a good album!!
I’ve always had a fan-spot for Level 42. This album is something new, (with a dash of the old school thrown in here ‘n’ there). Track 7, Love Wars has an awesome anthem feel to it, while Track 6 “Take my hand” is relaxed, soothing and subtle.
Track 2 “Swimming With Sky” you can hear traces and phrases of “Staring at then Sun”.
On the whole, a great album to have and listen to. I love driving around with this on in the car.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent album from Mark “Level 42” King,
Level 42 were one of Britains best (and underrated) rock/jazz/funk groups. Renowned for classics such as “Lessons in Love”, “Its Over”, “Take a Look” and “Something About You”, their success was more than in part due to lead singer and bass-player Mark King.
After the split of Level 42 (whose last album was the brilliant “Forever Now”), Mark King has come back with his second debut album “One Man”.
For those who will be expecting similar stuff to Level 42 songs, a lot of people may be disappointed, for this album is quite different. But this is really no bad thing, some of the songs on this album are superb (I disagree with Oliver below), particularly the first track “Bitter Moon”, which contains some very memorable and catchy lyrics (‘its cold and its crazy / bitter moon always betrays me’). Others like “Take My Hand”, are more soulful and are better for the instrument arrangements then the lyrics.
All in all, this album has some excellent and thoughtful songs, a few ‘chilling-out’ songs and one bad song (“Pamela”), but the album is still definitely worth shelling out for. Mark Kings voice is as distinct and classy as ever, his guitar playing equally great, and his talent for clever lyrics has not diminished. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Mark King,
Well, what can I say about One Man. Fabulous solo album by my hero – Mark.
A smooth groove of music which you can go from boogie-ing to the height of chill out…..
Pamela – the ulitmate pi** take about bimbos the world over – causing great hilarity between us laddettes who worship the King!
Changing The Guard – my particular favourite track although Half Written Songs comes a close second.
To really appreciate this CD you MUST be a die hard fan of Marks….. one or two of my friends who were never really Level 42 fans didn’t have the joy from the CD that I did…..
One Man, If I had Something, Changing The Guard….. classic, cool, smooth, chillout, funky, wonderful Mark King at his best……
