Out for Blood, a ten-track blast of hard rock-metal fury with street-gang lyrics and screaming leads and solos. And on its cover, she swapped her Runaways look of T-shirts and bell-bottoms for a black leather ensemble that revealed the body beneath.

“Me and the bass player came up with that,” Ford laughs, when reminded of the Out for Blood cover ensemble. “That was quite a long time ago, so I had to think about that. The bass player [Neil Merryweather] made that outfit. He used to make leather stuff, and he was really good at it, like the gauntlet on my hand and the crotch piece, he actually hand-made all that stuff. So that was an easy one, having him in my band, he was a really talented guy as well.”

Out for Blood is the debut solo studio album from guitarist/vocalist Lita Ford, formerly of the band the Runaways.
The original cover art for this album featured Lita standing in front of a spiderweb holding a broken blood-spurting guitar. It was later replaced with a cover of Lita standing in front of a purple background with her guitar.
Musically Lita Ford leaves no doubt that she has mastered the axe perfectly and also knows how to convince vocally. Back then I gave myself over to the visual charms and bought the disc and hoped to get the full metallic functionality. Mrs Ford took care of it for me too. “Stay With Me Baby”, “Ready, Willing And Able”, Die For Me Only” (partly reminiscent of the SCORPIONS number “Coming Home”) or “On The Run” are timeless heavy rockers and come with a time delay even after all these years ago without any major loss of quality.

Lita is a fine guitar player and Dusty Watson delivers a surprisingly superb performance. There are some real gems here: ‘Out For Blood’, ‘On The Run’, and ‘Just A Feeling’. It’s obvious that this is the building block that Lita will build her career on, the three aforementioned songs being a look into the future sound Lita would create. I’m surprised that ‘Just A Feeling’ wasn’t a big hit single, it’s a great ballad that probably would have definitely been huge three or four years down the line.  Best songs: ‘On The Run’ and ‘Just A Feeling’.
